EIGHTH GRADE BASKETBALL FTRST ROW: Rod Deffenbaugh, Kent Latimer, Bill Richardson, Randy Kruse, Gabby Crawford, john Bussart. SECOND ROW: Robert Goin, Brent Norris, Lynn Revard, Danny Smith, Lee Hazen, joe Hays and managers Eddie Greenwood fleftj Terry Travis Qrightj. The l968-69 basketball season got under Way on December 5 with the teams traveling to Augusta and losing both games. This was an indication of things to come as both games Went down to the final gun. Since that date several games have been decided in the closing seconds which gives rise to an exciting season. The 7th grade team has Won 3 games and lost 4 While the 8th graders stand at 2-5. Both teams have 5 games to play before competing in the Suburban League Tournament, which will be held at Valley Center during the first Week in March. HAWKS GO UNDEFEATED The eighth grade football team had a most unusual and outstanding season. Under the guidance of Mr. LeRoy Blasi and Mr. Steve Clanton, and with much hard Work, the team was able to end the season undefeated. The SEASON STATISTICS record was six Wins and one tie. Hflwks One of the highlights of the season was the Qoiliard 20-6 defeat of a powerful Ark City team which had cle mgtgn 12' 12 a long record of Wins over a period of several D eirwa er 34'7 seasons. SEVENTH GRADE BASKETBALL FIRST ROW: Tommy Vaughn, Mark Minick, Pat Tesche, Kelly Cooper. SECOND ROW: Kevin Bader, jim Prim Mike Ybarra, Gary Nichols, Steve Portz, Mark Payne, Tommy Reeves. THIRD ROW: Manager, Ray McFarlen, John Armstrong, john Dickson, jim Poynter, Doug Carton, and Manager Darrell Herd. School sponsored basketball begins at the seventh grade level in Haysville jr. High. Boys are selected upon natural abilities, desire, and all round basketball talent Any boy may try out for the team. This year the team was selected from about forty boys and finally cut to fifteen. Seventh grade basketball teaches good basketball with emphasis upon good sportsmanship, team play, basic basketball fundamentals, and a desire to lead a school in the proper Way. Win or lose, a school is proud of the bas- ketball team, for they represent the school as leaders. This year's seventh grade team had fifteen good ball players with a desire to learn and Win. They faced good competition and with extremely hard Work have Won and lost. Anyone can be a good winner, however, a good loser is one Who tries to overcome and improve by harder Work. This squad has done just that. They are to be commended on their outstanding improvement. The seventh grade basketball team of 1968-69 Wishes to thank each of the student body and the teachers for their over- Whelming support through the season.
