Mr. R. C. Hay attended East Tennessee State University where he received his B.S. and M. A. degrees in U. S. History and World Geography Mrs. Negatha Powers, Director of Guidance, attended Miligan and E.T.S.U. where she received her B.S.; she also attended Univ. of Va. , V.P.I. , and Univ. of Fla. , where she received her M. A. Assistant principal s Message . . . Mankind has struggled with limited success to achieve perfection in his worldly existence. This struggle has been marked by victories and defeats. To a lesser degree you have had similar experiences in your educational life. It is my hope for you that the frustrations in the life that faces you will be fewer and the triumphs many. Keep in mind that to obtain success you must be able to share the respon¬ sibility as well as enjoy the privilege. We should seek perfection, but seek it with moderation, or we destroy ourselves. You have been a wonderful teacher to me. You have taught me the true meaning of service, and I am eternally grateful. If I have given you but one ray of enlightenment with the same impact that you have taught me, I feel I have succeeded. The future is great and promising. Put all your energies and talents to whatever you wish to achieve and success will be yours. K Qfntiimnce Message . . Dear Seniors, Your graduation from high school will be your third giant step forward in your education. Your first giant step was leaving the security of your family and entering the bewildering world of the first grade; your second was entering high school. This third giant step will require the most adjustment on your part. You will have to make more of your own decisions and you won ' t have a textbook with all the answers. You won ' t have a handbook which lists the do ' s and don ' ts. You ' ll work your schedule out by yourself. I sincerely hope that you have formulated your own guide lines; that external discipline has taught you internal discipline; that you have the capacity to love and be loved; the inner strength to accept disappointment as well as gladness, sorrow as well as joy. Best wishes for a full and happy life. If I can be of any help at any time, please contact me. G- ouo e.£$ 9

priimpafs Message ERDMAN MULLINS Mr. Mullins attended V.P.I. where he received his B.S. and M.S. in Agricultural Education and Vocational Education. Your years of arduous work at Haysi High School are rapidly com¬ ing to an end. These years are not seen nor are they noticed, but they are to be an essential part of your performance in life. In too many areas of life today is the philosophy present that somehow the achievements of success can be reached without the ac¬ complishments of earnest toil and tribulation. I say to you, this can not be so. My associations with you as a teacher and as your principal will long be remembered and the thoughts cherished. I have watched you develop in educational competence, and I am pleased with what I see. You may not remold the world in a cast of your making, but neither will I shudder at the thought of you taking your place in our adult society. After graduation, I hope you can and will return often to the school for a visit. With this pictorial record goes my most sincere wish that the Divine Hand will keep a firm and guiding hold solidly placed upon your shoulder. 8
