We hope that these pages have pictured many fond memories and will serve as a treasure chest for many years to come. Because she has worked with us so patiently and con¬ tributed her talents so freely, we extend our sincere thanks to our sponsor, Mrs. Kathleen Slusher, and to the many others who have also contributed their time and effort. With our theme To Live, To Laugh and To Love we pre¬ sent this 1970 publication of the Thunderbolt to you. 5 ' larlrr H ' - ' hapIfr Mr. Hay always meets you with a smile. 2 )education ' 70 Because of your ready efforts to help others, your deep understanding and dedication as a teacher, we the Senior Class of 1970, dedicate the’70Thun¬ derbolt to you ... R. C. Hay We hope that through this we can show our appreciation of you and your readiness to share with us your many talents. Because I know that time is always time And place is always and only place; And what is actual is actual only for one time And only for one place; I rejoice that things are as they are and I renounce the blessed face, Because I cannot hope to turn again; Consequently I rejoice, having to construct something Upon which to rejoice. An active participant in all school activities. 6 Mr. Hay is always ready to help. ADMINISTRATION C. C. Short attended East Tennessee State University. He also attended the University of Tennessee where he received his B. S, , V.P.I. and the University of Virginia where he received his M.A. Congratulations on a job well done. The pictorial history of the final year’s activities prepared by the an¬ nual staff will serve as a lasting tribute to this graduating class. My association with this class has been pleasant and rewarding. I am well pleased with the progress made over the past five years. Education is a continuous process for most and is only limited by the effort put forth by the individual; I hope that each of you takes advantage of the many opportunities to continue your formal education. Good Luck, 8 Cftssistant O rincipafs JRessape I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the senior class of 1970 for reaching a very impor¬ tant step in their lives - graduation from high school. I also want to express my thanks to the students, teachers and employees of HHS for their wonderful cooperation in the improvement of the school. X TOMMY STREET Hiwassee A.A., E.T.S.U. B.S . and M. As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters. As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is by beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the ban¬ queting house, and his banner over me was love. Stay with me flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love. ' His left hand is under my head, and his right doth embrace me. I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. GoSafutafarians JANET BARBARA EDWARDS Stone walls do not a prison make, Nor iron bars a cage; Minds innocent and quiet take That for an hermitage; If I have freedom in my love And in my soul am free, Angels alone, that soar above. Enjoy such liberty. O friend , my bosom said, Through thee alone the sky is arched, Through thee the rose is red; All things through thee take nobler form And look beyond the earth, The mill-round of our fate appears, A sun-path in thy worth. Me too thy nobleness has taught To master my despair; The fountains of my hidden life Are through thy friendship fair. NANCY LUCILLE YATES A ' KATHY SUE ANDERSON Daughter of I r. and Mrs. James T.
