Another important phase of your education is now completed and I sincerely hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities available for further training. CLASS PROPHECY As Janice T., Sydney C., Pauline Y., Doris P., and some more seniors sat in the annual room dis¬ cussing the class and its future, in popped Kennith O., all excited, holding an odd looking object in his hands. He explained that it was an old family keepsake in memory of his great uncle, the famous magician, Scalawag. Nancy B., he said, take a look into a real crystal ball. So I looked and to my amazement I foresaw the year 1987. In Washington, D. C. there was a large group of people. The first I recognized was Danny S., introducing Harry A. to sing the National Anthem, along with Zay P. and the world ' s number one band, The Dish Pan Music-Makers, consisting of some of our former classmates: Martha A., Denver B., Sydney B., Larry S., Sue C., Bill R., John A., and Charles C. After that I could see President-elect Danny Davis and the most charming new first lady, Stariett M. Congratulating them were Republican Congressman of the Ninth District, Kelly P., and wife Judy H. and State Chairman of the Democratic party, Charles Y, And oh! Here comes the parade with the first float from Haysi, representing the Breaks National Park, designed by Junior L. and Jerry C., followed by the Haysi Blue Note Band. As we retired to Hotel Raines, owned by Jerry R., the hostess, Mary O., directed us to the dining room, where head waiter Lowell Y. showed us to our tables. While we were served our meal by waitress Gladys T., at the adjoining table we recognized a cub reporter for the Washington Post, Alex O., who gave us a report on many of our 61 Classmates we had lost contact with. We found that Johnnie Viers had become a Dr. at the Walter Reed Hospital where Juanita D. and Pauline C. are his nurses. We also learned that Ellis B. had become Secretary of Agriculture. 38 As we started our journey back to Haysi, we purchased our tickets at the Lacy Airlines, owned and operated by Lacy R., with Chris G. as pilot and Coy G. as co-pilot. Boarding the plane, stewardess Lois P. showed us our seats and briefed us on the safety precautions to be taken. When we landed in Bristol, Charlie T. picked us up in his cab and took us to the most famous hotel in Bristol, owned and operated by Bobby C. and wife Virginia C., Ronald S. and Delphia Y., Ola O., and Phyllis R. We enjoyed ourselves very much. We saw the great singing artists, Maggie H., Daphne P., Margaret C., and Alta D., who were recording a song for the Branham Record Co., owned by famous Kennith B., originally from B-A-R-Eridge, who settled in Bristol after inheriting $1,000,000,000 from his rich uncle, who just got out of the poor house. Finishing our tour we started toward Haysi, seeing the great atomic plant designed and operated by Johnny E. and Bonnie D. We stopped to take a tour of the plant; when we walked in we found that it only employed girls. We talked to Patsy D., Molly C., Vivian T., and Theda T. After leaving the plant we were in a hurry to get to Haysi, but were overtaken by a state cop, Jack R., who gave us tickets for speeding and loud mufflers. When he recognized us, he escorted us on to the high school for the class reunion. We visited the school first and we found replacing Mr. Short and Mr. Street, were Clifton Y. and Keith S., with their secretaries, Cora M. and Glenda E. Nancy B. and Cathy E. finally reached their goals as homemakers and were teaching Home Ec. Mac H. and Kit S. were coaching the Varsity team which has a victory of 15 wins and no losses. Brenda M. and Johnny H. are heads of the Science Depart¬ ment. Pauline Y. is teaching Speech and Drama. After eating lunch in the cafeteria, served by Susie F. and Sarah E., we had a class roll call and everyone was present except Shirley N. and Tommy R. and Carole M. and Bill M., who eloped and went North to Alaska. 39 40 JUNIORS Larry Alderson Rita Jo Wright Jackie Mitchem Judy Willis Alice Murphy Roger Fuller Brenda Mullins Cline Gilbert Ross Arena Janice Thomas Tony Jones Judy Deel Mary Rose Raymond Barton Carolyn Owens Earl Fields Teddy Bailey Linda Greene Conrad Anderson Lemona Rasnake 42 Ronald Compton Shirley Fuller Curtis Edwards Lucille Fuller Joyce Taylor Graburn Barton Joan Fuller Doug Fuller Bruce Edwards Anita Kiser Billy Musick Betty Anderson Fern Duty Glennie Barton Evelyn Dotson Kemper Rasnake Ronnie Salyers Cornieal Deel Ted O’quinn Shirley Silcox 43 Wayne Owens Dorothy Hill Jerry Owens Denia Payne Gail Viers Jim Cabe Terry Hay Jimmy Edwards Wayne Gilbert Loretta Yates Garnell Gilbert Margaret Lyons Lillian Stanley Roger Anderson Betty Silcox Jim Sutherland Vayard Harrison Margaret Sutherland Richard Owens Judy Viers 44 Jackie Mullins Joyce Turner Jimmy Owens Mary Duty Judy Willis Fred Yates Louise Mullins Rodrick Sutherland Roger Mullins Juliette Deel Robert Rice Susie Taylor Janie Hill Thomas Owens Roxie Fuller Bobby Fleming Wade Bartley Lorriane Mullins Roy Branham Janet Powers 45 Lois Owens Jerry Owens Katy Frazier Frankie Mullins Linda Wright Mona Hackney Faye Hay Madge Rose Gay Slone Katy Frazier Kay Taylor Charlotte Counts 46 SOPHOMORES Laquitsa Sutherland Harmon Rasnake Carole Sutherland Darrel O’qulnn Kitty Sutherland Jerry Thomas Linda Sutherland James Thomas Betty Artrip Larry Mullins Connie Rose Clyde Rasnake Gloria Robinson Roby Fuller Gay Puckett Carl Mullins Trulah Newberry Michael Colley Irene Sykes Charles Sykes Gail Anderson Harrison Dutton Linda Mullins Tilford Epling Lucille Austin Guy Yates Sandre Williams Charles Davis Carolyn Stanley Donald Colley Glenda Turner Roger Edwards Myrna Yates Gleason Silcox Sharon Mullins 48 Paige Kiser Arthur Deel Shelia Edwards Truman Hill Judy Hay Bobby Mullins Betty Ratliff Jim Puckett Wanda Hilton Wayne Sutherland Catherine Wright Wayne Willis Jackie Counts Danny Harlow Bonnie Hill Ronnie Robinson Betty Lou Mullins Eddie O ' quinn Linda Bentley Coy Nowlin Dorothy Edwards Johnny Branham Linda Edwards Roger Rice Patricia Sluss Roy Owens Francis Deel Danny Fuller Shirley Sykes D ewey Sullivan Carol Necessary James Colley Buaelah Counts Kenny Turner Shelby Jones 49 SIS Bernice Hammons Roger Sutherland Pat Counts Jim Duty Alice Taylor Woodrow Edwards Connie Willis Jimmy Colley Janice Owens Leonard Davis Betty Stanley Keith Sparks Phyllis Belcher Linda Edwards Jewell Rose Terry Owens Mary Sue Owens Virginia King Mary Lou Deel 50 Brenda L.
