TARWATER, ERDMAN MULLINS GLEE CLUB Sponsor: MISS EILEEN DEEL CLASS PROPHECY As I idly turned the crystal ball in front of me, not realizing what the thing was, I was amazed and surprised at what I saw. It was my old graduating class of ' 57, twenty years later. The first person I saw was Johnny A. with his burlesque show featuring Gay B. and Kay R. as top performers. Just then a light flashed across the ball and I saw Tex B. , the professional gambler, enter a night club, with his assistant, Betty E. They were met at the door by the bouncer, Lema C., who only glanced at them and turned to buy cigarettes from the cigarette girls, Lillian S., Linda M., and Faye S. Down in the basement of the club, Ralph C., the pool shark, was trying to teach Charlotte S. to shoot pool in one short lesson. Junior D. was calling the long shots. I then turned the ball upward and saw a scene that interested me very much. There before my eyes were Betty T. and Anne M. trying to convince our latest president, Den- nis C., that basketball should be a part of the Olympic games. After they left, the pres- ident ' s private secretary, Patsy C. walked in. With her were Benford and Buford E. fa- mous for their new model car called the Cattlerack. Growing tired of this scene, I turned the ball again, this time to a back alley. There was Joel T. and Bobby D. still bootlegging and dodging the law. I saw Betty A. on her knees before the judge, Raymond C., begging for a divorce on grounds of de- sertion. I, then, saw a cafe. There were Alene M. and Betty T. making foot-long hot dogs for Evon E. and Jessie O ' quinn. I then turned the ball toward Hollywood and saw Pat E. and Clark A. in their lat- est movie, The Boss Wore Skirts. After the movie, Joyce O. and Joe A., Marilyn M. and Elvis P. ' s biggest rivals, came on stage. After signing autographs, they left and Emma S. , Shelby Y. and Darvin E. did the most amazing trapeze act in history. The millionaire R. C. Y. then signed them up for a three year contract, providing they gave Danny H. a part in the act. I then turned the ball to our foreign lands. There was Em ma Y. reigning as queen, Jack R. as a bellhop, Neil T. as a waterboy, and Sharon D. as a maid. I saw then the great hunters of England, Larry O. and Johnny S. still hunting for a wife. Moving back to the U. S. by ship, I saw Don Y., the Navy man who had a girl in every port. Ross M. was there, too, serenading Shirley R. and Jean C. Jerry S., the world -champion wrestler, was roaming the decks searching for Harold E. who had shot him with a paper wad before they left H.H.S. in ' 57. Changing the scene again, I saw Mack B. and Kenneth G. the latest Dragnet stars, hunting for Juanita E. and Ronald M., who had stolen the latest jet plane, built by Fennie T. and Billy O. Joan M. and Gladys F. were missing also. There was another flash on the ball. I realized I was ba ck in Haysi. The hardware bridge had broken down and Greg B. , a great engineer, and his assistant Barbara O. were trying to rebuild it. I saw Fran T. and Geraldine M. buying home-made soap from Thelma T. on Main Street. Then Billy T. appeared on the scene with Junior W. and neither had changed a bit. At H.H.S. Hershel R. had taken Mr. Tarwater ' s place, Mary W. was teaching kinder- garten, and Evelyn S. was the Librarian. Of all the girls Betty Rose is the only housewife. As for myself, Cleta Hay, the crystal ball burst before I saw what the future had in store for me. Que sera, sera. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT On December 4,’ 1956 the Seniors hired one of the country’s most outstanding lawyers, G. Marcus Francais, to draw up the last will and testament. His fees were high but the Senior Class fund never missed the money. He did an excellent job and the following is a certified copy of said document. We, the Senior class, being of reasonably sound mind and body, do hereby leave to our legatees the following bequests: I, Joan Mullins, hereby will all my good grades to Joyce Mullins. I, Alene Mullins, hereby will my books to Earl Bartley, my only admirer. I, Lema Counts, will my good looks to my sister, Magdeline Counts, who already has them. I, Betty Turner, hereby will my Bookkeeping text to anyone who is dumb enough to take it. I, Sharon Deel, will my love for H.H.S. to my sister, Juilet Deel, in hopes that she will continue school. I, Ralph Compton, will my English 12 book to Jimmy O’quin because I don ' t have the ability to use it. We, Charolette Sutherland and Barbara Owens, will our evil minds to anyone who can handle them. I, Shelby Yates, will my flirty ways to Wanda Epling. I, Lillian Sykes, will my crazy ways to Rayena Mae Phillips. I, Jr. Deel, will my love for French to Mrs. N. We, Betty Taylor and Ann Miller, will our ten laps in basketball practice to Maynard Owens. I, Jerry Sutherland, will and bequeath all Senior girls of 1957-58 except one to anyone who can get them. I, Mack Branham, wish to leave everything that I don’t intend to take with me to the ones that have been so good to me and I also wish to leave something to the ones who have not been so good to me - sweet dreams. I, Buford Edwards, will all my belongings to all the Junior boys. We, Patsy Edwards and Cleta Hay, will take all we have, as of now, with us. I, Shirley Rasnake, will my single years to the old maids of H.H.S. I, Gay Bow- man, will my love for Poker to anyone who can get him. I, Kay Rose, will my first million and my love for Tarpon to Jerry and Betty. I, Betty Rose, having nothing of any value will take all my worthless possessions with me. I, Dennis Counts, will my red hair and freckles to any good-looking girl who can get them. I, Harold Edwards, will my love for H.H.S. to the Junior Class. I, Jack Rose, will anything I have to anyone who wants it. I, Neil Tiller, will my naughty ways to the future Senior boys of Haysi. “WALKY TALKY” PAPER STAFF Sponsors: MRS.
