Qrchestra The Haynesville High School String Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. M. J. Nygaard, was one of the first to be organized in the state. This orchestra has played for many programs and concerts and for the Louisiana Music Education Association at its annual luncheon at the Washington-Youree Hotel in Shreveport in 1946.

Girls' Chorus Mrs. Chester Blackwell serves as director of this group which con- sists of twenty-seven girls. The members are: First Row: Polly Ann Sharp, Dorothy Gregory, Barbara Ann Ware, Mary Virginia Hillburn, Peggy Goree, Patsy Youree, and Dixie Ruth Holt. Second Row: Bennie Shockley, Martha Perry, Mary Frances De- Loach, Iva Jewel Pullig, Betty Ode Acklin, Maxine Tomlin, and Barbara Phillips. Third Row: Virginia Lamb, Gloria Jean Brown, Elizabeth Seegers, Rosemary Moses, Joy Ann Branton, Peggy Bond, and Louise Martin. Fourth Row: Vivian Taylor, Geraldine Hunt, Billie Jean Butcher, Patsy Kirkpatrick, Cynthia Monk, and LaQuita Beavers.

National Honor Society The National Honor Society, which stands to high school studenis as Phi Beta Kappa does to college students, demands highest achievements in leadership, scholarship, character, and service of its members. At the beginning of the 1946 school term, the Haynesville chapter had three members - Joy Ann Branton, Wilmyrth Bevill, and Thomas Arnold. In the fall initiation, Bobbie Ray Elkins, John Nolen Maddox, Billy Hickman, Bobbie Lynn Powell, Maxine Tomlin, and Billy Ray Modisette were added to the list, and in the spring initiation, Tracy Ar- nold, Billie Ruth Lowe, Peggy Mayfield, Sammy Jones, and Jack Martin received this honor, bringing the total active membership to fourteen. The officers are: President--Joy Ann Branton Vice-President-Billy Hickman Secretary-Wilmyrth Bevill Treasurer-Thomas Arnold Reporter-Billy Ray Modisette Sponsors -- Mrs. Gaynell Tinsley and Mrs. Lurline Campbell
