BASEBALL SEASON The fall baseball season opened here September 10 with Woden as the opponent. The Hornets came out on the short end with a score of 2-12. ' The most thrilling ga.me of the season for the Hornet -fans was the 8-1 win over Klemme. This was the first time in five years that Hayfield has beaten Klemme.in baseball. SCORES Hayfield 2 Woden Hayfield 0 Kanawha Hayfield l 1 Woden Hayfield 8 Klemme Hayfield 4- Goodell Hayfield 4 Crystal Lake Hayfield 4 Crystal Lake Hayfield 5 Kanawha 'Hayfield 1 l Klemme HOMECOMING The first annual homecoming was held December 17 1947 in the high school gym. The Hornets played host to the Woden teams. The day was filled with activities for all. A pep meeting was held at 2:30 followed by a parade in which all the students participated. The cars were decorated with crepe paper and paint. A large group of people gathered along the street to watch the parade pass by. In the evening the Lady Hornets were defeated by the Lady Cardinals by a score of 29-20. The girls had one bright spot for the evening that was their new suits that arrived for the game. In the second game of the evening the Hayfield boys trounced the Woden boys 40-28. The main attraction of the evening took place during the half time of the boys game, when Dale Golbuff and Mildred Busch were crowned king and queen for the 194-7-48 season. Miss Busch had as her attendants, Eleanor jakoubek and Sheryl Hutson. The girls are all seniors in the Hayfield High School. Candidates for king were the first five of the Boys' Basketball squad. Don Mallow acted as master of ceremonies at the coronation. He was assisted by Winona Schnebly and Mary Ann Wellik. The evening was completed when the homecoming committee sold a delicious lunch. Bouquets were presented to the queen and her attendants. .The king received a boutonnierre. The decorating committee was: Winona Schnebly, Eleanor Jakoubek, Mildred Busch, Don Mallow, and Mary Ann Wellik.
