CLASS HISTORY At the beglnnlng of the 1954 5: school SESSION approxlmately 119 students entered the Freshman class We were d1v1ded 1nto two sectlons 9A and 9B w1th Mrs M lmer W1ll1ams and Mr S A Outerbrldge as homeroom teachers We found lt a ple a s ur e to take part 1n act1v1t1es, and we d1d so wlth eagerness The presldents of the sectxons were Claro Dlckens and Gert1na Key es They led us througha successful year Cleo Eoron, Samuel Johnson Claude Everett James Lambson and James Mclntyre made the ba s eball team These ooys along w1th Allce Brown, Florence Gorham, L1ll1e Jones Senora Armston and Loretta Latham made the basketball team We were eager to take part m the Senlor Talent Show Several of our classmates tr1ed out for and made the Gle Cluo and Band In splte of the fact that we were very act1ve 1n actxvxtzes we were also act1ve scholasucally Every s1x weeks several of our names appeared on the Honor Roll We lost twenty e1ght members upon enterlng the 10th grade but nlnety one of us returned for the sophomore year Aga1nwe were d1v1ded Lnto two sect1ons 1OA and 103, wlth Mr Crumby and Mr Mason as homeroom teachers Class pres1dents were Bar bara Bazemore and Betty Ryan Cleo Ebron, Raymond W1ll1ams, Samuel Johnson and Claude Everett helped to make the football team a stronger one On the basketball teams were Al1ce Brown Florence Gorham L1l11e Jones Allle Thompson Loretta Latham Senora Armston, James Mc lntyre Claude Everett and Samuel Johnson Many of our classmates were actlve 1n the Llbrary Club NHA NFA Speech Cho1r Glee Club and Band Frankxe Clemons Saunders Davenport and Marva Whltley were members of the Student Counc1l M1 mbers of the Speech Cho1r and Glee Club appeared on a telev1s1on program durlng Negro Hlstory Week Seventy elght ofus contlnued the Journey as Jun1ors We were d1V1ded 1nt0 two s e ct1ons 11A and 11B Wlth M1ss Parker and Mr Coles as homeroom teachers Saunders D venport and Marva Wh1tley s e rve d as pres1de-ntl and Laura Latham and James Mclntyre v1ce pres1dents We real1zed lt was tirne for us to unmte as one b1g famrly so xt was 1n the eleventh grade that we came together Sad1e Latham was presldent of the combmed sectlons We worked very hard to make a success of our Jumor Semor prom Raymond W1ll1ams, who excels ln art, served as 1nter1or decorator Our theme was Fa1ryland Romance' We must adm1t that we were sharp standlng agazmst our wlute p1cket fence and our beaut1fully decorated well We really made a name for ou r s e lve s 1n school act1v1t1es That year Claude Everett was co captaln of the basketball team, whxle Samuel fTreetopj Johnson, Rufus fThe St1ltj Brown, Cleo Ebron Wlllle Brown, and Frank1e Clemons were outs andrng players Allce Brown Loretta Latham Barbara Bazemore, Senora Arms on, Florence Gorham were members of the basketball team Jacquelyn Spru1ll served as presldent of the Dramat1c Club and Sad1e Latham was secretary Members ofthe Student Councll were Jacquelyn Spru1ll uce pres1dent and Laura Latham, asslstant secretary Jacquelyn Spru1ll was Z4 - , ' I Q ' I 5 . .
