Sneak Dag The eleven Seniors and their sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Hanley, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Counce, and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Counce, spent the week-end at the Acacia Hotel in Colorado Springs. The group left Hayes Center at 6 P. M. Friday, April 24th, stopping at Goodland,Kansas, for dinner, and arriving at their destinatia1 about midnight. Saturday morning the Senior boys and their sponsors drove to Pueblo, where they went on a three hour conducted tour of thssteel mills, which are the lar- gest mills west of the Mississippi. It was extremely interesting to watch the huge machinery in operation, and see the molten iron converted into finished g-oducts, such a rail road tracks, nails, woven wire, and decorative fencing. In the afternoon we drove back to Colorado Springs, and each one sp nt the time as he or she wished. Early Sunday norning the entire group drove to Florissant, where we saw I petrified forest. This particular forest was discovered accidentally by Mr. Hanley's aunt and uncle. They had leased about 2000 acres for pasture, and noticing a formation that looked like petrified wood they started exploring and before their deaths, they had uncovered 22 fine specimens, the largest tree being 18 feet in diameter. From there we motored to Cripple Creek, which was at one time a booming gold mining town. Now, it is almost a ghost town, with many deserted and abandon houses and business houses. While there we visited the'Molly' gold mine, which at present has only a few men working. The guide told us that they do not be- long to the union and only receive 31.55 an hour. We went down 1000 feet in a cage which held about nine people, and then went back into the mine about 1800 feet. The guide was very helpful answering all our questions, and pointing out interesting facts concerning mining. After eating lunch we set out for Royd. Gorge. This trip took us about 20 miles through Phantom Canyon, a very scenic and picturesque mountain drive. In many places -there was room for only one can with sheer cliffs rising hundreds of feet above us. We had planned to make a tour of the state pen at Canyon City, but arrived there after visiting hours, so left immediately for Royal G rge.0f course, one of the main points of interest here was the magnificient suspension bridgeyhidn the braver ones walked across. Later we returned and visited the curio shops and cafe. About sundown we returned to Canyon City, where we enjoyed a delicioulchick- en dinner. That evening some went to shows or roller skating. Monday norning we left the Acacia about 9 o'clock and visited the Garden of the Gods. Here the giant rocks had taken many fantastic forms and shapes. Here we admired th beauty of the mountains and visited the Curio Shop at Hidden Inn. ' 4 4 , Vw. aw : va' f, vw, 1. A Prophecy The other day as I stepped from the bus at the corner of Tate and Troth Avenues,in the fair city of Hayes Center, whom did I run into but Leland Messer- smith. We shook hands, warmly welcomed each other, and our hearts and minds easily ran back to our high school days and friends. Wondering at his status in life, I was amazed to learn that he was teaching shop in our old high school. Leland was so grateful for what he learned in shop that he wanted to teach other boys in the same way. 'The only differencen, related Beland, is that I have to clean the shavings from under the stove now.' I asked it he had heard from Rodney Leffler who I hadn't seen since gradua- tion. Leland chuckled, then answered, 'Well, since Rodney always had such high ideals in school he has turned out rather disappointing. He is suffering fron Amnesia and thinks he is a beautiful h la dancer. He wears a grass skirt every- where and has changed his name to Rodness. He still has retained his flirting manner but now he flirts with men. Leland reached in his pocket and handed me a large, hard orange. nRoland Rader sent me a whole box of these. They aren't much good for eating tho. Swede moved to California right after we graduated and started developing oranges that were bigger and harder for use in high school study halls. It's believed that Miss Green is his silent partned in the experiment. Wilma Palic finally gave up on ever hooking Perky, Keith or Rodney. She joined a well known dance act that tours the country and shows in many top nite spots. Off stage Wilma is a quiet, modest young lady, who patiently strolls the streets peddling balloons to the kiddies, and sings, Ulf I Only Had a Man.' Delmar Richter also lives in California, but spends most of his time in Las Vegas,Nevada and onvery urgent reasons scoots south of the border into Mexico. He is still married to Gwen. He remarked one time that it was rather nice to have a lawyer in the family in my business. As I had been riding all day I hadn't seen a paper so I glanced at one as I sat blowing with Leland. Two very familiar names caught my gaze and I could hardly believe my eyes--Richard WRoughneckn Greeley and Madame Phyllis West. In huge print on the sport page were these headlines: The Great Roughneck gets neck roughed. Even tho Rich has yet to win a match he is a great favoriu with the fans. It is PUMOPSO4 that he took in over a million dollars the last year but he squandered most of it away on peanuts to feed the pigeons in the park. In another section of the paper this large advertisement caught my eye. uH1ps Hips Awayn reducing salon. Well this was something for Hayes Center. It went on, My Whole staff welcomes you to give us a visit. What have you got to loose by coming in? Our motto ls: 'No job is too big for us.n Madame Phyllis West, Manager. Oh! by the way Clifford McGregor finally realized his wish. He always had such a love for horses so he went to Oklahoma and bought a huge ranch.Qe has in the neighborhood of 1000 horses all of the time. He never sells a horse. He claims a horse of his never wears out. Naomi Tidyman has become quite a leading figure in the women's sports field. She manages the world champion women's soft ball team. Her club is sponsored by a Potato Chip Co.,so the team is known as the 'ltzy Bitzy Potato Chipsie Bloonur Club.' Many cities won't let Naom1's team play in them again because so many homes were broken up after, you might say, they displayed their skill. Janice Felker soon tired of married life and became a career woman. She hasn't picked her career yet. She tried being a cigarette girl for a while but it wasn't exciting enough for her. at the present she is a lady parachutist. I think it's the pilot that's got her jumping tho. '0hI me, why Leland I'm the doctor I always planned to be. I sure do have fun fixing up those pet tom cats and poodles. Well guess I had better get back to my bus. It's been a wonderful chat.' Jim Garrett registered a little later in the fall, making a total of eleven. The Sophomore year found Naomi Tldyman and Clifford McGregor joined to our ranks, but since we lost Audrey Anderjaska and Tom ie Crapson, our number still remained at eleven. In our Junior year Leland Messersmith enrolled in Hayes County High School making twelve in our group.
