NMI CLASS PROPHECY by Evelyn Wilson This is the year 1962. Twenty long years ago eighteen young people graduated from the Hayes County High School, Hayes Cen- ter, Nebraska in May, 1942. Folks wondered that fateful night what life could possibly hold for those young people. World War nu ber two had just be- gun and the whole wor d was in the worst turmoil ever known in history. Adversity brings out the best in the human race. Luxury makes us weak and adversity makes us strong. After checking up on each of my class mates, I find they have all made good, even beyond my hopes. Passing an educational hall in Washington DC.,I noted a Mr. Stone listed on the program as a second 'Will Rogers.N Soon after entering, I recognized Otho Stone. His homespun wit and humor made him loved, as was the 'Will Rogersn of my youth. Sitting beside me at the lecture was a lovely lady, who was listening to Otho and seemed to be like me, also dreaming of days gone by. Impulsively I said to her, nDid you know Otho at Hayes Center?' uOh1 yes, I am Mary Lee Jones. Otho and I were class mates in dear, old Hayes Center. Oh! you are Evelyn Wilson. Let's go to the Royal Glen Hotel and talk over old times.Albert Russell is chef there and has been since it was built in l955.n After greeting chef Russell we really enjoyed a talk fest. Mary Lee was a noted dress designer at the New York fashion center. Since the war, New York is the world fashion center. American women did not ape French styles as the old fashioned women had been accustomed to do before the war. America now creates the styles for the entire world. Rowena Lacey has offices in various leading cities of Europe where she caters to the wealthy European ladies and sells them American styled clothes and jewels. Her salary is more than the President of the United States earned in 1942 per year. Kathleen Terrell has the same position in the Orient. She has a magnificent home at Roosevelt,China. Roosevelt,China is a new city just built u some years after the war. Kathleen is very happy in the New Republic of China. She writes that the Chinese ladies are very enthusiastic over the beautiful Ameri- can styles. Velma Wilson is a very noted portrait painter. She has paint- ed the most important people in the world's pictures. We all remember Velma as the artist ofcn1rclass in the old days. After graduating she taught school a short time but felt the call to be an artist and is now well on the road to fame. Wilbur Thompson is a very'nMad scientist in the Rockefeller Institute. He is so honored and loved on account of his find- ing a cure for cancer. He is a leading authority on medical science. - 3 -

NMI CLASS PROPHECY Continued Don Ready is a very able commander-in-chief of the United States Army. His father is a veteran of the first World War so it was not surprising that Don should go far in military honors. Georgia Ohlson is America's leading lady feature writer. Her articles command high pay and are read all over the world. Verl Glee's name is very prominent in sport circles as a baseball p1ayer.He is known as theNBabe Ruth' of modern times. Lester Hoback is a multimillionaire oil man. Oil was found in south-western Nebraska in 1947 and by his keen business ability he soon made a fortune. He has been called billionaire play boy on account of his many, many marriages, having just embarked on his ninth attempt at happiness. Dale Fowler is a very noted criminal lawyer. His services are used in all parts of the world. His kindness and sympathy are well known. Esther Switzer is our much loved nurse. She has been re- ferred to as being as great a nurse as the world has ever had. Ellis Clark is our only farmer. He says he farms because he likes the work and knows happiness, peace, and quiet after a day of toll. His country home is a heaven to a large number of his city friends. His wife is a splendid cook and has made a very pleasant home for Ellis. He is so happy and contented that I count him one of the most successful of the men of our class. Louis Stackhouse is a movie actor, the 1962 matinee idol of the movie going women. He is very happily married to a former Hayes County girl. Lucille McDowell is a society leader, having married a well known New York millionaire. She seems so happy but is always ready to talk of the happy days at H. C. H. S. Riley Mintling, or I should say Judge Mintling,1s very well known. He is a supreme court judge of the United States Su- preme Court. He is still the quiet, dignified Riley of school days. So you see all the 1942 graduates really did make good. I suppose you wonder what I have done in these last twenty years. I taught a country school for two years and then attended col- lege and secured my degree.I was then married and have travel- ed over the United States with my husband, who lectures on the nNew Order of Government.n He is trying to teach people how much better this type of government is than the various old types the world had before the second World War. -9-
