Even to such a class as ours the tortures of that 'first day are vividly remembered. Yet despite shrinking glances from haughty upperclass- men and frightening initiations into aforementioned school, we managed to stumble through that day sans catastrophe. Who can forget our first social gathering, the traditional Frosh- Party , with the girls huddled in close formation in one corner, the boys in another, and one brave couple, undoubtedly grammar school sweet- hearts, dancing in the middle of the gym? We will always remember the colorful campaigns before Freshman Election Day, and how we elected Ronnie Barks, president, Norman Cor- don, vice president, Barbara Ferguson, secretary, and Dorothy Carlock, treasurer. Our first class dance, Stardust Serenade , finally brought us from obscurity into the spotlight such a class deserved. Sophomores! With the re-election of Ronnie Barks as head man, we confidently began our second year. Jeff Costello was chosen Second in Command , Sondra Simmons, private secretary, and. Barbara Sands, treasurer. Paradise Island , our second class dance, introduced the novel idea of having a king and queen and proved to be a great success. Ronnie Barks is still talking about the big profit we made that year. -K . . l '-'ll .A ll VV. 'LP I , 14 in , . .. 1 . V A T fi . ' . iV. l. I . ,m,A, , . ,. V I L- 7 5 V s :Wi T F? Although Miss Helen Meuche, the play director, had ominous fears about whether or not the cast would be ready on time, they pulled through iin true class of '56 traditionl by the skin of their teeth. The plot revolved around Ginger Carol played by Joan Osekowski. Ginger is a peppy, bouncy, fourteen-year-old tom-boy with a surpressed desire to be on the high school football team. That in it- self is not too disasterous, but unfortunately Gin- ger's surpressed desire is realized. PLAY Such a situation would present problems to any normal parents. Mr. and Mrs. Howard G. Carol, played by Ronald Barks and Jill Van Hook, were no exceptions. Everybody gets into the act: Mr. Wil- son, pompous high school principal, played by Harry Eelkema and Edwin Roeserg Ed Hoffman, Howard Carol's boss, played by John Aqueg Tommy Green, Ginger's studious boyfriend played by Robert Staff, and Eddie Davis a football hero and boyfriend of Ginger's older sister, portrayed by David Hancock. Buzzing around like two rather angry bees were Ginger's sisters, Joan, a sophisticated Miss portrayed by Elsie Schubertg and Jeannie, the Carol's answer to Helen Hayes, played by Patricia Williams. Lizzie, the maid, played by Ruth Cosine, was Ginger's champion, domineering, yet loved by all. xqx They worked their fingers to the bone in preparation for the dance. The people crowded through the doors. Look at the money we're making! l 60 v , Senior Deumee C. R A nf- J' sv V . 0 r ms And the band Played 0 FI. Thus began, as dictated by tradition, this school year of i955-1956. These began with the annual Tri-Hi-Y, Dance, Sadies' Socks , and was followed by the first of the class dances, Au- tumn Leaves , by the Juniors. l Probably the biggest highlight of the year was the annual 3 l band competition where the blue and white marched and played i their way to a nice trophy, accepted by band leader Mr. Theodore Pizzarello. The Bonfire and Pep Rally once again proved to be one of the happiest times in the fall. The Christmas and Spring Concerts directed by Mrs, Evelyn Hartmann, the class dances, the Senior Play, and even the school work land who worked?l, all K T played a big part in this year's schedule. Although the year went slowly for some and quickly for others, it will be remembered by all who were here at school. 5 l , M we T, nf wah H - ,fbi ,- '86-4 Y , .'- .
