It seems to me as I write mv annual mes- sage for the LIl'XfLIlI'll.' that eiach year pre- sents a special challenge to our graduates. This coming year holds a series of chal- lenges for you. It places directly in your hands certain specific jobs to be done. Certainly among these iobs is the neces- sity of: Q lj thinking politically and bring- ing yourself to an understanding of your obligation as an American citizen, Q23 ap- proaching the eternal problems of toler- ance, security and peace with viewpoints that are fresh, vigorous, and inducive to new solutions, Q35 striking a better bal- ance between the moral and the material in your daily living, H7 thinking interna- tionally and learning to know and appre- ciate the peoples of the world. I trust we have made some contribution toward equipping you to fulfill these ob- ligations. May God bless you always. if W Once again we are preparing to send an- other graduating class from Hawthorne High School on to their future pursuits. Times are again in a rather confused state as far as world affairs are concerned. This leaves the immediate future for individ- uals likewise uncertain. Nevertheless, I feel that the members of the Class of 1951 will conduct themselves in the highest manner the same as past graduates have done. Many may enter the armed forces and personal ambition and plans may, for the present, be postponed until a real peace has been established. I can only hope for you an early settlement so that you may accomplish complete success in achieving your own particular place in this active world of ours W ,K M1 ,.... 1, To the Senior Class: To be interested is one thing, but to be concerned, that is realization.
