Plane Facts October 18, was a night full of fun and excitement. The crowd roared as the ten Homecoming King and Queen candidates drove by in an- cient automobiles. Who was to be the lucky couple? Was it to be Kan- ani Choate, Irma Najarro, Kim Ro- driguez, Lisa Velasquez, or Yuki Yufuku for queen, or Joel Bird, Mark Burris, Danny Kremer, Steve Mendiola, or Glenn Noya for king? They had made it this far. It was the first year we had a Homecoming King. Most students had a positive response to this new addition. Now the guys have an equal opportunity to run for Home- coming. The event isn't chauvanis- tic anymore, stated Senior Brian Tatara. Hawthorne's first Homecoming Queen from 1953 as well as Casey Varner, the previous queen, was present. They stood together on the field as the big announcement took place. Your 1985 Homecoming King and Queen are Steve Mendiola and Yuki Yufuku! The crowd went wild with excitement. A plane soared above, flashing the winners' names across the sky. Queen Yuki Yufuku exclaimed with a grin on her face, I was really surprised and happy. l couldn't be- lieve I won.
