' 1 ' fix ,-E X, 1 : A , GRADE ONE: Back through the years to 1946 we take to Miss Mickelson's first grade room at the Hawley Public school. That was the year the Class of 1958 started their education. Of the thirty-three who started, seventeen are still with us. They are: Donald Gilbertson, Duane Odegaard, Roger Quam, James Gruhl, Sara Lee McDonald, Sharon Larson, Adelle Kasin, Janice Gruhl, Richard Rustad, Carl Erickson, Gerald Sahlberg, Harold Giere, Nicky Carlson, Sharon M. Olson, Ardelle Luthi, Barbara Kronbeck, Gail Halvor- son, and Sharon A. Olsen. Our play, Little Black Sambo presented for our parents, was a huge success and the playhouse we built was our chief pastime. Our biggest thrill was the day we took a bus to visit each country pupil's farm. GRADE TWO: Advancing to second grade, Diane and Duane Brokate, Dennis Arneson, Marlys Kragerud, Wayne Wicker and Daniel Krause joined our merry crowd. Miss Sahlberg took the task of teaching us and her favorite punishments were making us sit in Lyman's chair, standing in the corner, or taping our mouths shut. Our bad deed for the year was destroying a snow fort built by the third graders. Grudgingly we all apologized one by one. GRADE THREE: Third grade found Miss Grahn teaching us. Benjamin Estrin showed his tremendous strength by pulling a post out of the staircase one day after recess. GRADE FOUR: Fourth grade brought us that favorite pastime of marbles. Miss Moen was our teacher. GRADE FIVE: This was the first time our class was split in two. MissRingtaughthalf of the class while Miss Cole taught the rest. This year we gained Glenn Cook, Jon Bredeson, Gary Bergan, Theodore Gund- erson and Donald Schenck. Cops and Robbers was the most popular noon pastime. The Tipsy-Topsy Tum- blers came into being this year. GRADE SIX: Our class was again split with Miss Lorentzen and Miss Forseth struggling with us. Gradu- ation from grade school took place under our direction and each of us were very proud of our paper caps and diplomas. GRADE SEVEN: Finally entering the high school building we gained Orlene Sander and Lawrence Nel- son. Most of the girls will remember their first Phys. Ed. shower. It was very embarrassing to walk around with straight hair for the rest of the day. GRADE EIGHT: Eighth grade brought us greater wisdom but also more punishment. Mr. Berg's Science class seldom dismissed without thousand word themes assigned to various members. Marlys Kragerud and Lawrence Nelson won the Eighth Grade awards this year. Mavis Jenson joined us this year. GRADE NINE: Ninth grade brought on initiation into HHS. Wanda Grefsrud joined our class this year. We were very handy at disposing of English teachers as three different ones taught our class this year. GRADE TEN: All of us will remember the driving class of our Sophomore year. Sara managed to get stuck every possible chance. We proved our sports ability this year also. GRADE ELEVEN: Advancing to our Junior year we were very proud of our class rings, our banquet and prom with the theme, Song of the Island and our class play Brother Goose. Our skip day late in the spring kept us late after school for the following weeks. Harold Christianson and Dianne Mack entered HHS this year. GRADE TWELVE: Now our dreams of graduation have become realities as our senior year has drawn to a close. From this year we will remember our carnival, homecoming, and our outing to Duluth. Don Bahl completed our thirty-six member class. And so we close this brief history of our twelve years here at HHS. Yesterday is past. . but the memories will live on forever. 8 m'L-'--- --W --WA --f -f-- - A' nail! Q15 Jon Bredeson, Valedictoriang Lawrence Nelson, Salutatorian. There will be many decisions to make and problems to face. With the guidance and train- ing we have received through the years we feel none will be too great for us to meet. The memories from l'l.H.S. will never be forgotten. We will always remember the wonderful school spirit, Homecoming festivities, and school soc hops. These arejust a few of the activities which made our school days happy ones. 17 'M X ' ess xt E., ' war., ' 2 Adelle Kasin reigned over the 7th Atilitialllomeeoniing. Her attendants were Barbara Kronheek and Dianne Mac-lc. To open the 1957 hoitieeoining festivities, Queen Adelle I was crowned on Thursday evening by Clo-Captains Harold Christianson and G ary Bergan. A variety show was followed hy the traditional hurti- ing ofthe dtimniy and a pep rally at the hall park bonfire. A parade in the afternoon started the festiv- ities for Friday.
