This balance seemed to deteriorate as the season progressed, and was fully evident in the final games. The Fargo B game, during the fall festival, furnished Hawley with their most exciting win of the season. The Nuggets captured the vic- tory in the last five seconds of play when Bob Dahl fired an aerial to Kenny Leverson in the end zone. The Locomotives racked up their first Minn-Dak victory by downing the visiting Nuggets, and then rolled through the rest of their schedule undefeated to gain the conference crown. The Squirrels also gained their first conference victory at the ex- pense of the last place Nuggets. Moral dropped lower in the Hawley camp, and resulted in a loss to the Fargo Central Bees in the second meetingbetween the two clubs. The Spud reserves gave the Nuggets a good battle, but ran into trouble stopping the end sweeps which netted us all three touchdowns. The Packers scored at will to hand us our second Homecoming game defeat in as many years. Our switch to the split-T formation still couldn't garner us a con- ference win. Several Nugget drives were stalled deep in Grover territory by staunch defensive work. Don Hannestad accounted for a large share of the Oak Grove yardage on drives through the center of the Hawley line. Four seniors played their last game for HHS, Arvid Nelson, RT Eldon Braun, C 30
