True, the Bearcats only won two ballgames this time out, but they accomplished a couple of very important things. Hawley built a strong foundation for a good, clean, hard- hitting football team. This is the first in many years where the Bearcats were considered the good guys, instead of the cellar-dwellers again. The Bearcats made it a hard, cold fact in their minds, and to other teams, that the Maroon and White were not through until they had played forty-eight full minutes. This year's motto seemed to be, Hit'em, pick'em up, hit'em again until the final gun sounds. T The season started off with a bang with Hawley beating Merkel, 15-6. But the Bearcats just could not keep it together in the next three losses. Things looked bright at homecoming with a 16-9 win over the Early Longhorns, making this two homecoming wins in a FOW. But the Bearcats never seemed to click in the last five games, scoring a total of fourteen points against their district opponents. 44 Bearcats Aren't Anyone's Doormat Anymore if 3 .1 x if 7, dw ,, i3f3 +9Wf' Blmazais amiU. m I2 'T W' W T., W ff YSSQRCATT ia ill! 2 ABOVE-Johnny New U01 gains RIGHT-Dualn Manuel 1203 takes yardage against Merkel. This earned Hawley a second-place finish and a spot in the play-offs for the first time since 1977. Vocational Agricultural Education is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed by high school students who have entered upon or are preparing to become established in the community and prepare them for employment in occupations requiring knowledge and skills in agriculture. We don't stop feeding, breeding, and handling livestock when school lets out in May. Vocational Agriculture involves leadership and livestock judging contest for betterment of student's knowlege, which in turn developes a responsible citizen of the community. Ag. Mechanics class consists of Juniors 8t Seniors. Hawley FFA is the by-product of Vocational Agriculture. Students put on livestock shows, as well as attend them. Money is raised for such items by selling Corn Gold Sausage and fruit. In doing this they encounter people developing Public Relations. ' r. ,- v l L 1' - 0 .
