Doty, son of Colonel Kie Doty, USA CRetiredJ, was born at Fort Porter, Buffalo, N.Y., September 28, 1923 and lived at various Army posts until he entered the Naval Academy in 1942, After graduating and being commissioned an Ensign in june 1945 he reported to USS DAYTON CCL-10'5j then opera- ting off Tokyo Bay and served in that ship as Fire Control Officer until the fall of 19464. He married Miss Lois Turner of Annapolis, Maryland in October 1946. Then followed duty in USS ROCHESTER KCA-124j, USS ADIRONDACK KACC-lil and USS MOUNT OLYMPUS fAGC-85, in gunnery and operations billets. He attended the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School for two years in the Ordnance Engineering Curriculum, graduating in 1953 with the Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then studied Industrial Engineering at Purdue University earning a Masters Degree. Completing his post graduate training in 1954 he returned to sea and commenced a series of duty assign- ments in the Destroyer Force, Atlantic Fleet, as Gunnery Officer USS STODDARD QDD-566-D, Operations and ASW Officer on the Staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron 28 and as Executive Officer USS DE LONG KDE- 684 . Fiom june 1958 to February 1961 he wasthe Production Officer at U.S. Naval Ordnance Plant, Louisville, Ky., engaged in the manufacture of 5 f54 guns, torpedo launchers and -components for missile launchers. Following a tour as Executive Officer, USS M.C. FOX CDDR-8295 he reported in April 1962 to assume com- mand of USS HAWKINS CDDR-8731. Commander and Mrs. Doty have three children, Carol, William and Kathleen and reside in jacksonville Beach, Florida. E '
