As our professor of French, he was great. ' His keen wit and sense of humor has won the hearts of many students, and we are truly grateful for his work with us. O We, the Seniors of Haw River High, proudly dedicate the 1962 Indian to MR. ELMO S. ALLGOOD Who, no matter how busy, howtired or how rushed, always has time for a friendly smile and a cheery hello. He is never too hurried to spare a moment for a Word of encourage- ment to spur us on to higher goals of both education and spiritual life. We would like to express our sincere appre- ciation for his help and guidance during the four years that we have spent in high school. -me 2 5' MISS THELMA CATES Once afriend, always afriend , Miss Cates has remained our friend. We, the last Senior Class of Haw River High School sincerely wish to express our gratitude, love, and deep appreciation in be- half of everyone that has ever known her, and come in touch with her truly wonderful personality. We thank Miss Cates for every bit of her patience, understanding, and re- markable untiring zeal to work for those around her. Miss Cates, May God bless you. From Elon Collogc Annual 1925 To any class, of any kind, she'd be an ac- quisitiong She's amiable to everyone - It's just her disposition. Once afriend, always a friend may be truly said of Thelma. Loyalty to people whom she loves is one of her chief character- istics. Quiet, but competent, she has proved herself to be a diligent student by the four years of Latin that she mastered. Since she is aday-student, she is not with us much, but we are convinced that Thelma is a very con- scientious girl who never shirks a duty. She seems able to face any baffling situation, undisturbedg and we truly believe that her every effort will be crowned by success. 1 Q Y x' ff . S , fc.. Q gi 1 b'Q J oar gf Cjofzcazfzbnt G. O. Was it really four years ago that we thirty-five freshmen entered Grand Ole Haw River High ? Since that day in 1958 we have encountered many adventures. I remember the enthusiasm and anxiety we felt as we began our freshman year. We had Miss Thelma Cates for our homeroom teacher. We immediately elected Donna Abernathy as our President. When home- comingarrived,Judy Everheart and Donald Rice represented the ninth grade. This was the beginning of our high school career that we would remember for a life time. Surely we can all remember the year 1959. No longer were we green freshmen, but thirty-nine fine sophomores--a little wiser and a little better, we thought. We were in Mrs. Betsy Wall's room that year. Our President was Rickey McPherson. Judy Everheart and David Brown represented our class in the Home- coming celebration. For class projects, we sold candy for the Christmas Prom. It was a huge success, and the prom will always be a really beautiful memory. In September, 1960, Mr. L. D. Martin led our Junior Class of thirty-five. Judy Everheart was elected President. That year, we were very proud to present Betty Montgomery and Charles Clark as our Home- coming representatives. We sold magazines and held a Barbecue and Brunswick Stew Sale, which was very rewarding. We received our high school rings that we had long waited for and began showing them off. Perhaps not actually confident, but with plenty of hope and faith, we are now in our senior year. At the very beginning of the year, Lewis Duncan was elected President. Mrs. Bateman was our homeroom teacher. Betty Montgomery and Charles Clark again were Homecoming attendants. Judy Everheart and Roger Boggs were Homecoming Queen and King. We had a Barbecue and Brunswick Stew Sale to help defray expenses of our New York and Washington trip in the spring. We had been waiting a long time for the trip, and when the time finally arrived, we had no disappointments. To top our final year, we had our greatest success, our annual, the last Indian that Haw River High School will ever publish. As anyone can see, we thirty-two Seniors have many years of lasting memories to carry with us in the future. We leave our Alma Mater, dear old Haw River High, with high hope in our hearts that we will in years to come, be an honor to ourselves and to our school.
