The class officers were; President, Alice Leach; Vice-President, Clyde Cooke; and Secretary and Treasurer, Frances Mills, An English Club was organized which met once a week. Prizes v;ere av arded to Jessie Mae Harvey and Graham Faucette. Jessie Mae and Frances Allen entered the Recitation Con- test p.nd the Thrift Essay Contest was won by Leatrice Thompson, The highest scholarship average was won by Alice Leach, and she was ihe representative from the Freshman class at the Junior-Senior Banquet, Thirty-five people began our sophomore year. ¥e organized with the following offi- cers: President, Clyde Cooke; Vice- President, Alice Leach; Secretary and Treasurer, Frances Mills. At the close of the school year we had a class party at the home of Miss Thelma Gates, our home-room teacher. Again Alice Leach made the highest scholarship average and Clyde Cooke represented the class at the Junior-Senior Banquet. We entered the Junior class with 3I ) em— bers under the supervision of Miss Mary Sue Rawls. Graham Faucette was elected President; Fred Caldwell, Vice-President; Mary Ellen Haye , Secretary; and Mildred Anderson, Treasurer. During that year our class sponsored an p.ma— teur program which y p.g a great success. One of the most outstianding events of the year v as the Junior-Senior -Banquet. Eighteen students entered the Senior Class in September, 1939, under the supervision of a new teacher. Miss La Verne Port erf ield. Our grade-parents v ere Mr. and Mrs. J. The purpose of the council nas to improve our room. The eighth grade has enjoyed having a,s their teachers: Mr. H. R, Newlin, Miss Thelma Gates, Miss Edith Brannock, and Mr. J. The purpose cf this club is to promote the use of better English, and help us speak fluently on our feet. Officers for the first term were: President, Frances Blalock; Vice- President, Ben Clark;- Secretary and Treasurer, Jackie Thompson. Officers for thd second term were: President, Barbara Simpson; Vice- President, Medra Rice; Secipetary, Elizp.beth Heese; and Treasurer, Violet Allen. Our club meets every Thursday and our members are sincere T7orkers.
