Two trans- fers, lim Welch and lim McLeod, helped the Ponies a great deal. The Ponies started the 1953-54 basketball season off slow and couldn't seem to get going until mid-season when they upset such teams as Butte, Butte Central and Great Falls. The climax of the season was the second victory over the Great Falls Bisons. This game took place in the Electric City on February 26, when the Ponies won the biggest thriller of the year by a score of 67-64. By winning both games with Great Falls, the Ponies were able to capture the Ole Goat. This was the first time since 1951. The only four-year letterman for the Ponies, Dick Wright, won All-State honors and was on the Northem Divisional second team. Dick is tied with his brother, Keith, having received the most letters in Havre High athletics. Ken Livesay, Pony guard, received All-State honorable mention. Receiving basketball letters for the basketball season of 1953-54 are as follows-Seniors: Gaylord Iacobson, Ken Livesay, Tom Renaker, Ed Boucher and Dick Wright.
