Jafin The Latin Club has been opening its meetings to the tune of Gaudeamus Igitur for the past I2 years and it was not different in '59-'60. Any student who has taken or is taking Latin II, III, IV, is eligible for membership. In addition, 'IO Latin I slaves, who scored 90M or above on the Ist quarterly examination, are elected and initiated into S.S.C.C.V., or the Society of Stu- dents of Caesar, Cicero, and Virgil. The club's purpose is to help Latin students under- stand Roman life and culture and to stimulate interest in the Latin language. During the year members participate in many activi- ties on Roman life and times. The Roman banquet, instituted for the first time last year, is a highlight of the cIub's program. The club also sponsors an annual trip to New York City, and a Christmas party.

Membership in the club is limited to students of Social Studies 'lO, ll, 12 of Haverstraw-Stony Point High School. This year Mr. Frank Arone is assisting Mr. Snieckus as co-sponsor. A cake sale and dues finance the activities which include an educational trip and Christmas party. A play on some phase of history is presented before the student body annually. A program committee ar- ranges for monthly meetings. Pins and keys are avail- able to seniors in good standing, who have been active in the club for two years.
