ALOYSIUS J. LYNCH Superintendent of Schools Haverstraw-Stony Point District Mr. A. J. Lynch, our School Superintendent, has spent his boyhood and the major part of his adult life in Haverstraw. His family owned a brickyard in which he worked for a time, a typical experience of that period when Haverstraw was known far and wide for its brick industry. After graduating from St. Peter's Elementary School and, in 1920 from Haverstraw High School, he en- tered Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Here his first two years were devoted to studying Latin, Greek, and English. He studied philosophy in his iunior and senior years. Mr. Lynch graduated from Holy Cross in 1924 with an A.B. degree, followed by graduate work at Fordham University and New York University. In 1929 Mr. Lynch was appointed to the Jamaica Normal School, where he taught science and coached basketball and baseball. He gained further teaching experience at John Adams and William Cullen Bryant High Schools in New York City. In his leisure hours, Mr. Lynch enioys gardening, coin collecting, wood working, and swimming. He lives with his wife and daughter Deborah on Hudson Avenue. Another daughter, Barbara, has been mar- ried for two years. Deborah is a member of the Haverstraw-Stony Point Class of 1960.
