Returning are 5 boys, led by Seniors Gene Stecz, Lewis Kantrowitz, Roger Palmer and John Fiore, along with Bill McKiernan. Gene is by far the best golfer in the county and is among the top ten in the state. Our coach of the year, Albert Johnson is also with the team again. Hopes for another championship run high among the team members. At this stage we can only speculate.

To the last match of the year, the team was in contention for the championship. At the very end, the squad iust missed capturing the title. The season opened with a win and a loss. As soon as this uncertain period was passed, the team domin- ated the league until the last day of the season. The boys' biggest thrills were the rousing defeats handed out to Nyack and Suffern. The team was composed of two Seniors and two Juniors. Seniors, Lewis Kantrowitz and Richard Courter were undefeated in doubles. Juniors John Ladden and Alex Farr played brilliantly and are certain to become masters of the courts in the season to come. Tennis is a little followed sport in this area. Even so, Haverstraw put together a team this year which possesses the best record ever compiled by a Red Raider squad. This group of boys played together. Spirit and determination to win were harmonious and sportsmanship was always maintained. We would like to congratulate Coach Wilbur Wanamaker and his fine staff for a iob well done. Even in defeat, they can walk with heads held high.

N arfiifg gaaedaf 1960 5' The Varsity Baseball team, under Coach Gerry Neary, is looking forward to a successful season. Early pre- dictions held the Raider nine a strong contender for the P.S.A.L. title. Led by strong-armed Tom DePatto, who placed on the County All-Star team as pitcher last sea- son, the squad includes four other seniors who are returning lettermen. Bob McNulty converted from the outfield, appeared as a shortstop. Tony Hoyer and George Kear are the two 120 senior outfielders, and Brian Reilly will see duty as secon starting pitcher. Their first game saw the Raiders whitewash the Pirates 10 to 0, DePatto allowing only 3 hits and fanning 'l0. If the Raiders can get by the first half with a decent record, it should be a little easier during the last half when 5 of 6 league contests will be at home lf the team gets a few breaks and the lineup keeps hitting, a victorious campaign will be in sight.
