X L? , 0l'elll0l' The theme of this Recensio-1960 is the small fauna of our locality-the frogs, worms, insects, and small reptiles. These crea- tures have been on Earth for hundreds of millions of years, and in greater number than any other species except protozoa. At one time, years ago, the mighty dinosaurs ruled Earth, and no other denizen of land, sea, or air could contest the reign of the giant lizards. Then, after a hundred million years, the dino- saurs faded away, but the worms and insects lived on. The mammoth came and went, as did the sabre-tooth tiger- but the lowly crawlers of the ground remained. When the creature named Man first roamed the forests he looked upon the creeping things and said: How much greater I am than these insects and frogs. I must indeed be the rightful heir to the entire world. So it was that man established himself as King, building cities and working wonders. He molds the Earth and reaches for the stars, while the lizards and worms live on. Look around you, Reader, and see the endless highways and the vast cities, think of the unbelievable technology your race has developed-then look at a worm. JOSEPH L.
