VICTOR FAUCETT - i i FW? Clara Hille, Treasurerg Virgil H. Gledhill, Attorneyg Marion Ormsby, Clerk Administration To THE CLASS OF 1959: I am pleased to have the oppor- tunity of writing a few words in the 1959 Yearbook, and wish to extend my appreciation to the Haverlin- guist staff for granting me this privi- lege. First of all, may I extend congra- tulations to every member of the senior class. This year, your last in Haverling, will soon be over and you will have graduated from high school. I know this will be a proud moment for all of you and, although congratulations at this time are somewhat premature, I assure you they are no less genuine. It seems to me that there are many things of which this class of '59 can be very proud. Yours is the largest class in the history of our school, and we are hopeful that at least a hundred diplomas can be given out at commencement time. You can boast of more scholarship winners than any previous class which is a good indication of a high overall scholastic ability. There is an abundance of talent in other fields, such as music, sports, drama- MR. WIGHTMAN, Superintendent of Schools tics, art, etc. But above all, it has been my observation that you are ladies and gentlemen, friendly and courteous, with a high sense of fair play for all. If you will hold on to and nurture these fine attributes your success in life is already assured. Again may I congratulate you on having nearly completed your high school education. I can say that all of us at Haverling are the richer for having had the opportunity to associate with you, and we hope and trust that Haverling has given to you those qualities that will ensure rich and rewarding lives for each of you in the years that lie ahead. VERNON E. VVIGHTIXIAN General Oflice Staff Four smiling faces greet us as we pass the general office. For our fresh- men oflicers we chose Sharon Squires to lead us as President, Jay Dickson as Vice President, Kitchie Shoemaker as Secretary and William Ormsby as Treasurer. We will never forget our first youth dance and its success and Miss Blair as our class advisor. In our sophomore year at HCS we were a little more confident and our treasury began to grow under the direction of Kitty Ryniker as our President, Bob Hawk as her assistant, Larene Nichols served as the Secretary and Sharon Squires as the guardian of the money. We enlarged our funds for Washington with a sale of miniature letters and a very successful bake sale. Our first winning youth dance, Winter Wonderland, was a highlight of the year. We were on our way. We had another big step toward graduation when we became Iuniors. For this year we chose Larene Nichols to become our President, Darlene Manning took care of the paper work as our Secretary and Karen Knapp served as the Treasurer. We chose Kitty Ryniker and Gary Taylor to run for the vice presidency of the Student Council. Vote for Kittyf, Cast your Ballot for Garyf, We made an increase in our treasury with our pencil sale. We will never forget our successful junior Prom, Sayonara,', with our handsome King jay Dickson, and our beautiful Queen, Joanne Mowchan. Our Prince Bill Kastner, and our Princess Doris Rumsey made up the royalty. The junior Senior Banquet was the most painful attack on our pocketbooks. Finally we made it- we were seniors after three years of long waiting. We chose Bill Kastner to lead us to Washington as our President. Dick Seybolt served as Vice President, Joanne Mowchan was our Secretary and Dick Gallagher took care of the treasury. We chose Bob Gallagher and Bonnie Dennis to run for the presidency of the Student Council. We will always remember our magazine campaign which was very successful and very profitable and our extra money from our refreshment stand at the football games. We will never forget our Crystal Christmas Senior Ball with jay Dickson as our King, Linda Jessup as our Queen, Bob Gallagher and Suzanne Goldman as their attendants and our Senior Play You Can't Take It with Youf, Finally we have reached the highlight of our Senior year, our trip to Washington and all the fun we had. Then our Senior Day Assembly and its joy, and finally the night of graduation. Through the years at Haverling we have lived the best part of our lives. We will never forget what we did at our Alma Mater - Haverling. L'-' ' B. Kastnerg T. Ryersbachg R. Ideg I. MaGillg K. Knappg A. Lentg L. Gleasong S. Enscoeg D. Bowersox: P. Peacock. -ig. Under the direction of Haverling's new football coach john Northrup, the Ramblers ended the season with a 2 win and 6 loss record. This year was hard on the team as far as injuries were con- cemedg both during the regular season and before the actual playing began there were Rams in- jured. Although the Ramblers did not bring the jug back to Haverling the boys played a good game. The student support at this game was tremend- ous. One thing that had hindered the team before was the lack of student supportg this year when the team was well-supported you could see a definite improvement in their playing. The team worked out of a single wing offense during the regular season and tried to surprise Painted Post with a double wing. The single wing was new to the players and thus accounted for the first loss of the season. When the Rams met Homer they played one of the best games of the season with Sam Repass starring for three touchdowns. They defeated Homer 27-12. In the Horseheads game the Rams were at their weakest. Through injuries they were with- out Bob Callagher, Larry Bennett, Dennis Brush, and when the game was over Howie Veit and Dick Gallagher had been injured. Overall the Rams played good football. Al- though losing a heartbreaker to Canisteo, 7 to 6, the team never lost their spirit. They were always in there fighting for Haverling. Tiger Football First row: D. Townsendg J. Tydingsg G.
