We realize that he has truly supported the Class of '58 in all of its projects and has helped us to make the best of our problems. Many are the hours that he has devoted to explaining the complexities of mathematics until we finally saw the alight. We remember with gratitude his part in enabling us to attain our goals as seniors. With a deep sense of obligation, we, the Class of 1958, wish to dedicate the Haverlinguist to our class advisor, teacher and friend, Mr. Wilson. pf-wa' 'I 'M cv 1 'f 2 Q5 5 j?J'1?' NICKLAUS Board of Education Though the seasons change, the work of maintaining the educa- tion of the children in the school district still has to go on. The Board of Education serves the community in many numerous ways, such as: approving the curriculum for the students, hiring the best teachers available, and providing facilities for instruction. These are just a few examples, but they give you an idea of the tremendous amount of work they do for us. The Class of 1958 offers its thanks for all the Board of Education has done to make life at Haverling the real pleasure that it has been and for the opportunity to secure an education. Mas. KIFF Mus. My fervent hope is that all of you will continue to develop these talents in the years to come. Again may I congratulate each of you, and say that it has been a real privilege to have been associated with you during your elementary and high school days. We are in- deed proud of you, and may you always so conduct your- selves that this pride will increase rather than diminish in the years that lie ahead. The very best of luck and a full and enjoyable life to all of you. VERNON E. Looking like a ticker-tape procession in New York City, the campaign parade monopolized the fall lime- light. After a series of vote-getting activities, rancging from corn roasts to snake dances, the stu ent body elected Margo Towner, presi- dent and Cary Taylor, vice-president to be assisted by Alex MaCill, treasurer, and Kitty ,lane Rvniker, secretary. PENN YAN - The Penn Yan game was featured by the running of Laggis, Repass, Dawson, and the pass- ing of Finkle. Fullback Larry Bennett was hurt on the first play of the game and did not see action again until the Lakemont game. Orcutt and Repass scored the touchdowns, both coming on running plays. PAINTED POST - The animal jug game was played in two inches of snow. Haverling scored first and it looked like the Rams had the game in the bag. But a ufluken pass that went for a TD and an inter- cepted pass that went for another TD completely dazed the Rams. The Ramblers had to work hard for their two TD's, while it seemed that every time the Post offense bogged down, they received a break. This was the one year when Haverling had the better team. but it was to no avail. A great deal of credit should be given to the Ram's forward wall which blocked and tackled fiercely all season. Bob Burns, Clenn Orcutt, jim Fagan, Iohn Hunter, Dave Shirley, Ed Sanford, and Howie Veit were the starting line for the Rams dur- ing the season. Danny Laggis proved to be one of the best backs in Haverling's football history. Haver- ling also had one of the the best quarterbacks in the county. Cary Finkle. Finkle's outstanding passing ability proved very helpful to the Rams all during the season. In all, the Rams had a very good season even if they did not bring the jug back to the Halls of Haverling. The team and Coach Ritchko deserve a great deal of credit. The team had the one thing that is needed to be outstanding in football, and plenty to spare - desire. First row: D. Monohan, F. Clark, R. Class of '59 With Mrs. Hoffman as our advisor, we be- gan our junior year with an energetic cam- paign for Vice-President of Student Council. The pouring rain on parade day dampened no one's enthusiasm, though it did incon- venience those riding in convertibles. After the campaign excitement was over, we started raising funds for our Senior trip. Our pencil sale was a glorious success, with a free dinner in Washington promised to the top salesman. Our bake sale will also be re- membered, though not as successful. The highlight of the year was the Prom. With Sayonara as our theme, we turned the gym into a land of Iapanese enchantment. Finally, came the junior-Senior banquet, and oh, our poor pocketbooks! Now we look forward to a summer full of vacation fun, and plan to be back next year, as Seniors! Fortunately, everyone was as dazed by this beautiful building as we were and we soon settled down to watch the seasons pass. To lead us through this, our first year of high school, we chose Cary Finkle, President, Diane Brown, Vice-Presi- dent, Nancy Wheaton, Secretary, and Don Riling, Treasurer. We started work and were soon marked as an outstanding class. Our first memories include . . . ...Ringing doorbells to sell tickets to the Sea Around Us . . . Our bake sale and all those goodies that flopped . . . Mrs. Finnerty's angelic homeroom ...Our first youth dance and our pride upon receiving the prize . . . The many bumps and bruises after our skating party . . . The fun of just being freshmen A lot richer and a good deal more confident we entered our sophomore year. This year we selected the following officers: Margo Towner, President, Tom Gilbert, Vice-President, Mary Lou Van Skiver, Secretaryg Donna Tears, Treasurer. We eagerly checked our treasury and started once again to fatten it. We'll long remember . . . . . . Our very successful dance after the jug game . . . Mr. Wilson's weird looking blackboard after geometry class . . . Candyland,' and our second year as the prize winner . . . Mr. Burrington's guidance as our class advisor juniors at last! We had almost made it. With Washington so very close we chose Alex MaCill to lead us through the year. Dick Parker served as Vice-President while Billie Lou Smith was Secretary and Dave Shirley, Treasurer. Those wonderful memories of our junior year are . . . . . . Our first student council campaign with all those suckers and signs Do not tarry, vote for Garyv and The wise old owls in the trees are saying vote for Louise. ...Waiting to sell that one last pencil ...Finally discovering why the strange odors come from t e chemistry lab . . .Our last youth dance Autumn Notes ... I Love Paris, the authentic sidewalk cafes and our own Eiffel Tower. Carol Fiorillo, our lovely queen and Fred Eade, our king - princess Mary Faucett and Gary F inkle, prince . . . .Our first encounter with those frighten- ing term papers . . .The unwillingness with which we paid the bill for the junior-Senior banquet . . . The realization that our years in Haver- ling were almost over A dream had come true. We were seniors. A wonderful year lay before us. To get us to Washington we chose Louise Kammire as our President, Nancy Wheaton, Vice-President, Betty Ball, Secretary, and Alan Katner, Treas- urer. How could we ever, ever forget . . . . . . Our student council campaign for the office - Go, go, go for Margo and He's pur-r-r-r-feet, vote Alex MaGill . . . Wet feet and cold hands but a very suc- cessful magazine campaign . . . Our joy at having the new refreshment stand . . . Annie Get Your Cuni' - the fear of bad shells-feed sacks-and Mrs. Tate, our favorite director . . . All those hours in Mr. Cook's office ... Holiday in Heaveni' that was really heaven - Nancy Wheaton our queen and Cliff Morse our king. Louise Kam- mire, our princess and once again, Gary Finkle our prince. . . . Those blue slips! . . . Finally a reality - our Senior trip with all its fun and memories . . . Our efficient Mr. Wilson - the best ad- visor ever . . .Singing our Alma Mater, the entire Class of 1958, for the last time ...Accepting our diplomas and turning away as alumni with a new challenge before us These have been happy years at Haverling. The seasons have held many memorable events. As we go forward into the future, we will long remember our Haverling-our Alma Mater. Court of Beauty These four girls have been chosen as the most photogenic to occupy the places in our court of beauty. As pretty as the winter snow . . . as refreshing as the summer breeze, we see that the beauties of nature end not with the seasons.
