THE HAVERLING ECHO JUNIOR RESPONSE H SAHRE WHEELER Mr Preszdent Teachers Sclzoolmates Fnends S SPEAKER for the Class of 1910 I wlsh to express to you our gratltude for permlttmg us to recexve th1s key of knowledge stxll brlght and unblemlshed Through the year durmg whlch It wlll be ln our possesslon we hope that lt may unlock stores of knowledge whlch wlll help us ln our future llfe and stlll keep wxde open the doors through whlch the teachers enter To them we are also grateful for aldmg us to attam thls posltxon whlch after much study and work affords us the prlvllege of recelvmg lnto our safe keepmg thls brlghtly decorated emblem of learnmg We smcerely hope that when Commencement season comes agam we may through our Presl dent have the opportumty of contmumg the beautlful custom of handlng down thls key with 1ts rlymg colors each set of colors repre sentlng a class of Haverlmg colors dear to hundreds of young and old who have elther al ready made thelr mark or are Just belng 1ntro duced lnto the wlles of the busy world In departlng from the walls of Old Haverlmg thls key lS not the only treasure whlch you leave wlth us There w1ll always remaln m our thoughts the memory of the three happy years we have spent together and the frxendshlps w lncn have made our Hlgh School days brlght Durlng our remammg year lt wlll be our hlghest ambltlon to mamtam the standard set by the former classes and to make the fullest use of the key of knowledge JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY l FOI A MILI S N TUESDAY February 2d 1909 the Junlor Class of twenty one members was orgamzed wlth the followmg officers to execute ltSlYT1pOI't3l'lt busmess matters Presxdent Sayre Wheeler N106 pres1dent Gene weve Schoch secretary and treasurer John Castle reporter Frank Murrav At a second meetlng held February 9 colors were declded as orange and black next mornlng we were all very patrlotlc an wlshed 'Vhss Wxttman to smg The Orange an the Black Naturally the semors would smg and the Junlors volces seemed rather weak so that ended IH a fizzle but nevertheless we gratefully UQ recels ed great applause from the Semors They were soon hushed up by the Prmclpal who sald that such thmgs were en tlrely out of place durmg chapel exerclses our The not We were dellghtfully entertamed at the home of Margaret Cuffney on Saturday February 13 After enyoylng muslc and games ref eshments were served We couldn t help but notlce that Hazel had to be fed by one of the charmmg young men of the Semor class who happened to be present The Semors were rather slow about steallng the ICQ cream for we had had our supper They were lucky ln gettmg m as far as the kltchen where they shared the re malns But Warren sald he never ate frult and the oranges passed qulckly We had such a good time that we hated to leave but we man aged to get home befole Sunday mornmg Uh The evenlng of March a found us all except Grattan happlly assembled at Ethel Cohn s Several games were played for the purpose of Wlnnlflg prlzes but cheat the lawyer seemed most popular Refreshments were served IH the dlfllflg room whlch was artlstlcally decorat ed ln orarge and black We departed rather late U1 after engoymg a most dellghtful evenlng Our class IS luckler than some classes ln havmg almost as many boys as glrls but accordlng to the general run of affalrs there were a few more glrls than boys But hnally our number was lncreased by another Spencer Whltaker It seemed too bad that he mlssed two of our parties Our presldent Sayre Wheeler entertalned us on Thursday evenlng May 6 About o o clock found us 1n the dlnlng room w hlch was decorated ln our class colors In the center of the room stood a small table on w hlch sat a Jack Horner ple artlstlcally made of black and orange crepe pape and baby rlbbons hangmgly loosely from under the cover Each Junlor stuck IH h1s thumb and pulled out a plum whlch pros ed to be souvenirs of the evemng After enjoymg muslc and games we dlspersed to our several homes declarxng we had had a Jolly good tlme After school Wedesdav May 26 we all went to the lake chaperoned by Mlss Mclntosh After watchmg boat races glven by the boys and playlng games a bountxful supper was served Though our present hxstory IS rather short we hope to make up for 1ts deficlency ln our semor year and hope that ln the future the pupxls of Haverlmg w1l1 read our hlstorv wxth as much mterest as we have read that of our predecessors Dld you ever compare our prices for tallormg wnth those charged elsew here If you do you w1ll not have to bea keen mathematlclan to solve what a saying our work IS to your purse Step ln and get prlces Tate the taxlor Bath N Y V . .
