SAMUEL EVANS EWING Pickering Creek Farm Valley Forge Pa Entered 1935 It w1ll seem strange to us when next fall comes around not to be making my way towards the Haverford School from lar off Valley Forge as I have been doing for the past twelve years Starting off in the far corner of Mrs Moores first grade room I had a fairly peaceful trans1t1on through the Iumor School disturbed only by time spent in working as Co Editor on the Globe and in taking part ln the many class plays When I entered the Senior School however 1t took me some time to figure out how to dodge Mr Palmer s erasers and Mr Shaf er s demerits When these problems were finally mastered the rest of the way was fairly easy Many memories of happy days at Hav erford will doubtless come to my mind ln the years to come but at present I must admit that the best part of school seems to be vacation be Prlnceton and then law school and the bar IOHN D FLYNN 37 Pleasant Street Katonah New York 135 Pound Football VI Entered 1945 Varsity Tennis VI Tennis V H VI Hallgoluk Semor Edztor VI Index Contnbutor V IV French Club IVICS Pres dentl V Dramatlc Club V lSecl VI Bond Club III lSecl IV Glee Club V VI Cum Laude Class Scholarship Prize III Mathematics Pnze Ill IV At the opening of the 1946 school year we found Iohn Flynn is amazingly slow racing by 19 as a new resident of the Oaks This wiry haired 1nd1v1dual hails from Katonah New York We still wonder how Iohn ever got here 1n time for the opening of school for in everything 1nclud1ng h1s eating he Iohns favorite subyect in school is English and from his con stant quoting of Glamrs thou art and Cawdor one mxght gather that he has aspirations to become a great Shakespearian actor Dont believe it We find that Iohn s favorite pastime is s1mply gazing out the window watching the squlrrels at play and the cars In any event Iohn IS a swell fellow and a good compamon Here s hoping that he makes the grade at Bowdoln After graduation the next stop in my pursuit of education will Signet Society V1

Entered 1944 ln the fall of 1944 Don Dohner was drawn to Haverford School's front gates by the tales of its good food and short working hours. Ever since he has been enjoying them. He soon won the hearts of his fellow students by his easy laugh and the joke he has for every occasion His athletic career as one of the main stays of the famous Boilers basketball team was meteoric but brief For some strange reason automobiles are not allowed 1ns1de the Haverford Gym and since Don IS seldom more than two feet from his car that was that By his senior his reputation was firmly established as the only boy never to be seen to take a step 1n any d1rect1on other than toward or from a car His good scholastic standing has not prevented him from adding some real spice to Mr Cleavess English session If this ambition continues at Cornell a real chemical engineer is bound to result See you behind the test tubes Don' LEWIS HENRY ESLER IR Tunbridge Road Haverford Penna Entered 1939 Lew arrived at Haverford in 1939 He had previously attended the Penn Wynne School and upon his arr1val here was amazed to find that there no girls at school Since then he has been able to overcome his dlsappointment and has produced a very good record Lew 1S well known for three things his brains his wit and his girl troubles One envies the first deslred the second and p1t1es him for the third He IS also an outstanding athlete having been a main Varsrty Football IV H layvee Basketball lV Varsity Baseball lV H Index Assistant Sports Edztor Polemzcs Society IV V Glee Club V VI atm Club IV Game Committee IV V Honor Roll Vl V stay on the football and baseball teams for the last two years In Winter Lew IS one of the members of the Health Club Th1s is one of the new clubs in the school for future A111-Xrnericans Although he IS usually found with the Summer School boys he should not be judged by them Lew IS just trying to teach us how to be an Honor Roll student without doing any work 18

Bill is one of the most popular members of the class that is now leaving Haverford. Throughout the nine years which he has spent here Bill has made a fine reputation for himself and has gained with his pleasing personality an almost uncountable number of friends. As for athletics Bill once again is tops. No one who saw the Lawrenceville football game last winter will forget the wonderful game that he played. Before closing, it would seem almost imperative to mention Bill's car, for it is around this Ford that his life is patterned. Not only does it take him to regular school, but it was also a leading factor in his going to summer school year in and year out. 20 Varsity Football lV H V Basketball IV H V Vl Baseball 2nd team III IV Track V Vl Glee Club Ill IV V Current Events Club lll Pres VI Polemxcs Society IV Three Fours V French Club IV Game Committee V
