IOHN E BAKER II I3 I E Entered: 1942 CORNELL Current Events 44 French Club 43 44 Crosman House Commrttee 44 Swrmmmg 43 Varsrty Track Manager H 44 In 1932 I began my formal educatron at the Elmwood School outsnde of York Pennsylvama I entered the York Colleglate Institute ln 1937 and contmued my studies there untxl the end of 42 Then I came to Haverford to lnve at the Crosman House On September 15 1942 I arrnved here I told Mr Covert that my name was John E Baker It dxdn t long xdentrfy me clearly though because an hour later john S Baker arrrved and ever smce people have been callmg me both names The flrst year I was here I roomed wlth the Reverend S Baker xt was a lot easxer for everybody havmg us both nn the same room That year I became very well Informed on relxgrous questlons thanks to S and also concerning matters about the bunldlng of The Body Beautlful by A G Atlas Van Metre In 43 I returned to find that my new roommate was Jonathan Hxldreth Dlckeson Montalgne more commonly called Moe and later known as the boy wxth the short name and the long legs After the Hre on November 29 we moved to the Regzster House on Grays Lane where we were ln charge of Messrs Fox and Cleaves Retummg from sprmg vacatlon we moved back to the Crosman House From then on I settled down to the job of managing the track team and makmg an all out offensrve for my dlploma EDITOR S NOTE From the day john arrlved It was evldent that the York Pa Chamber of Commerce had opened a branch ofice m Haverford Every tlme a tram went by on the P R R he could be heard to say That tram goes to York J E may be found after school among the drug store phllosophers who congregate at Camps Pharmacy On occasrons he can be seen srttmg rn a rellectwe mood but that lS pretty rare for an actlve man lrke h1m Perhaps hrs greatest dxfliculty has been trymg to keep from bemg confused wnth S Baker Now that he IS leavmg that task wxll no longer present ltself and E wrll have comparatnve rest If Uncle Sam calls hrm to the colors next summer the country wnll be getting a fine soldler However lf thlngs are dxfferent E plans to study chemical engmeermg and we feel sure that he will do well ' i ck, as ' .n v f 1 ' l . . , . .. .. .
