Gayle Meacham Univ. of Penna., A.B Lacrosse Vlary Muir observes Miss Gilmore's explanation of the marking system in Latin H. Students interested in languages at Haverford High School are able to pursue courses of study in several foreign tongues. Thus, not only is he able to receive a basic understanding of grammar and vocabulary, but he is also afforded the op- portunity of becoming familiar with fundamen- tals of conversation and the literature and phil- osophy of the country. Under the guidance of Miss Perkins, Miss Ries, and Mrs. Brown, every Spanish studeknt is given the opportunity to become proficient in what he will realize is an interesting and flowing lan- guage. French, taught by Miss Meacham and Mrs. Brown, is recognized as one of the most useful and beautifully spoken languages in the world today. Mr. Sell and Miss Perkins conduct the German classes. German, as well as being important in the field of science, reflects the romantic and poetic spirit of the German people. As previously, four years of Latin are offered by Miss Gilmore. The study of this language is valuable as a basis for many other languages, and it acquaints the student with the literature of Greece and Rome. Certainly, all students should avail themselves of the opportunity to study a foreign language at Haverford. Patti Ballantine, Bill Jackson, and Janet Thompson appear pleased with Miss Perkins' ranslation of a Latin American Newspaper. 5 1 '1 .' ' mmmmmmam wAswsWwm'Mvsvs- --h- - - Qx if' Thelma I.
