FOREWORD The clock has moved forward twenty years,- it is 1978. You are seated in a comfortable chair and are looking through your copy of GREYSTONES 1958, reliving half-forgotten high school memories. Do you still remember Haverford? If you close your eyes and think very hard, you can imagine yourself once more entering the building and looking down the long, locker-lined hallway with classrooms on either side. Slowly, you walk down that hall toward the auditorium. Why, isn’t that the ticket booth ahead of you? It seems so quiet now, but what a busy spot it became before a performance as everyone rushed to buy his ticket. Perhaps you'll open the auditorium door and take a look inside. Yes, there is the broad stage, the flag standing proudly in one corner, and the podium placed in its familiar position. Do you remember all the assemblies—good and bad—that you watched here? Or perhaps you found it a convenient time to catch up on lost sleep. Leaving the auditorium, you pause for a moment, looking at the athletic trophy showcase. Can you still hear the enthusiastic voices of the sports fans ringing from the bleachers? Once more you turn down the hall, remembering with a smile those long distances between classes and the many times you had to hurry up the down stairs or down the “up stairs in order to arrive in class before the bell rang. Yes, that was the Haverford of 1958, your Haverford, which GREYSTONES has tried to preserve for you.
