Although the athletic fields could not be used, the Physical Education Department has provided a well-rounded program of activities this year. Get the ball over the net! Shrieks of this kind were frequently heard in girls' gym classes, where, in the fall, they played volley ball. Line soccer, which is a combination of football and soccer, provided rough excitement for the girls and rounded out the fall season. Can you touch your toes? If you can't, you had better stay away from the girls’ gym classes, because exercises play an important part in the development of a physically-fit body. The boys used the macadam area, adjacent to the school to play football and soccer. In spite of skinned knees and hands, they survived the season and also provided entertain- ment for classroom lookers-out-of-the-window.' Winter marked the beginning of basketball, a sport which was thoroughly enjoyed in both boys and girls’ classes. The he-men” also wrestled and did gymnastics, making use of the horses, rings, and parallel bars. Tumbling brought the girls many an aching back and stiff leg, but they woefully kept at it until everybody could do a backward somersault! Jumping rope added variety and brought back those good ole childhood days but then who thought of it as an important exercise. When long-awaited spring arrived, it brought to the scene its regular seasonal sports—badminton and softball for the girls, baseball and soccer for the boys. ALLISON G.
