DEDICATED TO ALLISON G. CORNOG Perhaps no one exerts as great an influence on a young man as his athletic coach. It is hard for the many he coached to express their heartfelt appreciation for the guidance and inspiration of Allie Cornog. We are grateful to the man who came inexperienced to Haverford in 1926 and turned out champion- ship teams; we are grateful to the man who gave unceasingly of his time and energy to help mold the quality and reputation of our boys today. The Cornog Memorial Trophies, Memorial Field, and the Alumni Varsity Club Awards are material evidences of our gratitude to him. The spirit of our students, teachers, and teams is an eternal monument to his unfailing influence. LAUGHTON B. LOGAN Captain 1927 Football Team for Alumni The credit for the development of the splendid athletic program at Haverford High School rightly belongs to Mr. Cornog. Coming to Haverford in 1926, he coached the football, basketball, and baseball teams. As the school More important than victories were the qualities he instilled in his players. Any athlete playing for him knew how to accept victory with true modesty and how to take defeat in a manly way. He coached to win, but not at the expense of Haverford s reputation. He taught his boys to play hard but clean, and to earn the respect of the opposing player in so doing. The high place which Haverford High School's athletic program holds in suburban circles is due to Mr. Cornog’s many years of coaching and the reputation of his teams. He knew the science of his sports, knew and understood his boys, and placed the interest and name of the school above all else. The greatest tribute Haverford can pay him is to have our coaches and teams continue to uphold the high ideals and principles by which he coached. MR. WILLIAM B. STINSON For the Faculty 8
