There are five basic work gangs in R Division: The Electricians are responsible for the operation of the ship power dis- tribution system, switchboards, control units, lighting, and various other elec- trical units. The LCG gang maintains all internal communication gear, alarm systems, gyro, and other related equipment. The Shipfitters are in charge of all sheet metal and pipe work. This in- cludes the related welding, brazing, cut ting, and valve repairs. Closely related to the Shipfitters are the Damage Controlmen and the Ma- chinery Repairmen, who are in charge of the operation and readiness of all damage control gear and watertight closures.
