She knows that he's ill and just come home to die. However, her husband, a hard-work- ing, practical man, absolutely refuses to consider the matter. The old hired man is unable to do a day's work, and the farmer will not have him hanging about. The frantic wife tries everything, and as the old hired man pleads, tell- ing of all the work he'll do, her anxiety mounts.
