1962 JETSTREAM HAUSER HIGH SCHOOL HOPE, INDIANA DEDICATION Dear Archie Bill, What words can express our admiration for you? You have shown unbelievable courage and stamina in achieving your desired goal - a high school diploma. We hope that this yearbook will serve as a small substitute for the times you couldn’t share with us. Although we have not been with you, you have been with us in our thoughts. We wish to extend to you now all the good wishes and best luck possible to such a deserving person. Your classmates, The Class of 1962 HELLO EVERYBODY! This is Mary Handt and Merrill Emerick inviting you to take a look at the 1962 Jetstream. As time slips by, it will become increasingly difficult to bring back the cherished memories of our happy days at Hauser. We of the Jetstream Staff have attempted to capture within the pages of this annual some of the most important events of the year 1961-62. If it keeps alive these memories, its publication will be justified. EDITOR-IN-CHIEF ASSISTANT EDITOR GUIDING MR. ERNEST CLAYTON Chemistry, Physics, Vocational Agriculture. MRS. Since fourth class means the company supplies the roller skates, we simply pick up our roller skates from Mark Baldwin, the local distributor for CRUNCHY CORN FLAKES, and depart. As we approach Clifford, we hear what appears to be thunder; however, closer examination discloses that it's Curtis Tetrick and his roaring ’54 Ford pipes. As he speeds up for a turn, we realize that sitting next to him in his co-pilot , Mary Lu Handt, who is training for the next 500 mile race. After they vanish around the comer, we see Marshall Richard Andrews and his deputy Don Trimnell, who are noted for capturing the notorious gangster brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Simmons, are hot on their heels. Tired of the confusion of this bustling city, we throw our skates into overdrive and vacate to Columbus. As we enter the downtown section, we can’t help noticing that there is something going on. We nudge a man standing next to us and ask him, Is that a parade? He answers, I give up, is that a parade or is that a parade? We assure him that we don’t know; then suddenly we realize that we are talking to Bouncing Bill Riley. ” He informs us that he is waiting in line for a picture of the T. V. exercise girl, Rena Blake, who is being driven in a new convertible by Jack LaLane Bush, her manager. Next is a float carrying Arthur Hudson's latest invention, a motorized push-button slide rule, developed for use by Carol Bense for quick calculations on her trip to the moon as America’s first lady astronaut. After listening to a short speech by Mayor Kenny Chandler, we exit this fair city. As we roll west on Highway 46, we approach Gnawbone. Suddenly, we begin to hear guns popping. Casting our eyes ahead, we realize that it is Larry Christy and his G-men, raiding one of Dennis Herron's many stills. Rolling into the heart of town, we find two prominent citizens in a pie fight over Diane VanArsdall. Scraping off a layer of coconut cream, we find that the two men are none other than Harold Sims and Mike Starnes. They are not fighting over Diane herself, but over who has to eat the pies that Diane made. Then we hear a piercing scream, and notice Paulette Kelly running onto the scene. Michael, get to work, your family is hungry and here you are playing with pies! On this sour note we leave Gnaw Bone and journey still farther west. Just ahead we can see Brown County State Park; we decide to stop for a rest. As we approach the gate house, we notice an old friend, forest ranger, Don Burton, who is now happily married to Jean Harris. Proceeding into the park, we are almost run down by Alvera McNicholas, who is late for her job at the new park cafeteria. This being too much to bear, we sit down in the shade of a tree. Feeling something hit us on the head, we look up to see Richard Young and James Lobdell. Upon inquiring, we find them to be tree surgeons. They are very sad since the gigantic oak they are working on has a very bad case of blue mold. Their feelings aren't for the tree; it’s because they have a very mean boss, Kenny Cockerham, who will fire them, unless they cure it. Deciding to leave our friends in their misery, we bug out. Three hours later, as we approach the Indiana-Illinois state line, we note a red light flashing behind us. Glancing at our jiffy-quiffy speedometers, we see that we are exceeding the speed limit by 25 miles an hour. Having been stopped with one foot on Indiana soil and one on Illinois, state troopers, Gene Robertson of Indiana and James Crowhom of Illinois rush up. They are fighting for the right to arrest us. Investigators Alvin Schaefer and Joe Moore, decide that we should go to the Illinois court since we are headed west. Upon arriving we find His Honor, Judge Ab Frazier-Bey, at the bench. Thanks to our brilliant defense attorney, Merrill Emerick, we are permitted to go free on $. 15 fine. As we are leaving the court room, we see police-woman Terry Debusk trying to revive stenographer Gloria Simmons, who fainted in the excitement and confusion of our trial. Leaving the court room we are approached by reporters, Linda Watson and Vicky Nading, who work for Russell Taylor, editor of the Daily Blab. As we are giving them the latest word, we are suddenly knocked down by a falling body. It's none other than Karen Essex in the garb of a window washer. She thanks us for breaking her fall and is on her way. As we return to our skates, we find that we are double parked and a meter-maid is giving us a ticket. It is Carol Coy. We explain that we’ve been to court once today; she lets us go. We mount our trusty skates and are off to parts unknown. An hour later we develop roller trouble, and we are forced to remove our skates and hop a freight train west. As we jump into a cattle car, we find Judy Hinton and Donna Stader looking at the cows. They inform us that they are Vets and are inspecting the cattle for lice. Scratching each others backs, we jump from the moving train, and land in a new convertible going east. In the front seat sits Ruth Ann Johnson and Sue Beeker, the driver. Surprised at our sudden visit, Sue wraps the car around the nearest tree. It seems that Ruth Ann is a driving instructor and Sue is her first and last student. As we all untangle ourselves from the wreckage, we are confronted by a woman with a shotgun in her hand; it's Carol Dillman, and she is very disturbed because we struck her favorite tree. Off we go in a puff of gunsmoke. Jumping a fence, we head for a distant bam. As we enter the bam, we see Phyllis Henderson and Earline Coomer in a desperate fight. It seems that both girls want the cow for their 4-H entry. We settle the matter by dividing the cow down the middle so each can enter a steak. With the two girls happy again and things quieter outside, we decide we have had enough of our prize so we pool our money and buy a plane ticket for home. As we board the plane, we are greeted by Pat Siefert, plane stewardess, and as our plane sinks into the horizon, the missing engines can be heard for miles. Goodbye earth people! SENIOR WILLS I, Richard Andrews, will a hammer to Jim Thayer so that he can bang some of the dents out of his car, a do-it-yourself kit to Mrs, Webster, so she can fix those crazy typewriters, and a new Cadillac to Mr, Wickard. I, Mark Baldwin, will myself to Betty Halsey. I, Sue Beeker, will my brains to Earl Shay, Jr., and my books to anyone who will have them. I, Carol Bense, will my silly remarks and actions to Dick Herndon. I, Ab Frazier-Bey, will Mr. Duckworth to the American Birdwatchers Society. I, Rena Blake, will my dark copper hair rinse to Vicky DeBusk and to my brother Roger I will my quiet personality and slim figure. I, Donald Burton, will my ability to go steady with one girl to Jim Cooper, and my troubles in school to anyone who wants them. I, Jack Bush, will my flat-top to Thelbert Mings. I, Kenneth Chandler, will my long curly hair to Carl Artis and Mr. Wickard. I, Larry Christy, will Hauser High School to David Starnes. I, Kenneth Cockerham, will my catchy name to Mr. Duckworth.
