Such as the change of the old paint to the new. Also there was a change in the class sponsors. The job of being a class sponsor is a very difficult one. The teacher or teachers taking on this job must have extra time and plenty of patience. This year the Senior class had four wonder- ful sponsors: Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Brodaway, Mrs. Hammel, and Mrs. Murphy. They had many responsibilities and lots of extra duties added to their daily schedule. A few of the things they had to work on were money making projects, Senior trip, prom, and graduation. These teachers helped the Senior class a great deal and the class was totally satisfied with the job done. Also Mrs. Viviano helped the Senior class through graduation by taking cap and gown measurements and collecting gradu- Greg Miller Leanne Miller Kirby Moore Donald Morgan ation fees. Returnin from camp with a first place home routine trophy and spirit pom, the giis showed everyone their determination and actual strength. To relieve the burdens which accompanies any group of girls and replace the Sternness of Cissy Faulkinberry, Mrs. Janyce Kinley was appointed as the new sponsor. Being a raduate of Northwestern State University, plus a previous Cane River Bell, she came to the Highsteppers ready to teach and willin to learn. This is the first year in about seven years that Haughton has had a peps- quad. There are only a few requirements to join peps- quad. So as the saying goes Be A Pepper . They did great this year and what can you expect from Spon- sors like Mrs. Springmeyer and Miss Stroud. Pepsquad 65 0 66 I Z F . , HU cy A as Homecoming 1981 was a disappointment for most students. All the long nights and hard work put into each float went right down the drain when it was announced that there would be no parade. Yet the workers still got to get out of class to see what they could save from the rain and prepare for the traveling judges. After seeing all of the floats and coming to a very hard decision, the Seniors' Winnie the Pooh stole first prize. The Preshmen's surprisingly good float of the Three Little Pigs took second, while the much deserving Juniors' train chugged in third. Everyone's bound to re- member how excruciating those last few plays were, and the feeling of actually winning. Flasing cameras could be seen all over the Buccaneer Stadium as the 1981 Homecoming court was present- ed. However as another result of the wetness, the court was unable to walk through the honor guard on the field as previously planned. Instead, the track served as their walkway. We would have to admit, though, that this year's Homecoming was a success- just a different kind of one. . .deg ,4- fl' V, 'im ,, Q Q . fig 'Q Q -4 - s wg, 1 fo in w QM! Q fe 245 1195! However, outstanding play and leadership on the individual level is also a necessity. It was this factor which impressed the Louisiana sports writers and coaches as they named ten Bucca- neers to illustrious post-season teams. Football 79 Coach f The qualities of a coach are something special in themselves but the qualities of a successful coach, as in coach of the year, are nothing short of intriguing. How does a person become a successful coach? In Coach Tynes circumstance, he became interested in the sport of giants during the 5th grade as his height advantage caught the attention of his coach, Prom there, young Tynes grew through the ranks of prep athletics where he obtained the prestigeous plateau of All State, his junior and Senior year. With this kind of stepping stone the Bossier High School graduate, Bill Tynes, proceeded into the domain of collegiate play where he began his Physical Education curriculum. Upon completion of his degree, Bill Tynes became Junior Varsity Coach Tynes, as he did the apprenticeship which is commonly accepted by inspiring young coaches. During his 6th year at Haughton, Coach Tynes improved his status to Head Basketball Coach, a position which saw his team advance to the State Play-offs. Combing all these attributes with his remarkable achieve- ment of the year, the Louisiana sports writers named Coach Tynes Coach of the Year. However, Coach Tynes would admittedly discard all of the above for his position in the Buccaneer tradition. A position where he can work with young athletes and mold them into fine citizens through the concept of self dicipline learned through athletics. After winning their first meet, the Bucs went on to place in the top three on all the remaining meets. When it came down to the district meet, the Bucs had a surprising first place finish ahead of heavily favored Wossman for the District Championship. The following week at the Re- gional Meet the coaches were even more sur rised when they learned that with one event left they haclja chance to win the Regional Championship. The Bucs had to finish fourth in the mile relay to accomplish this. They finished a disappointing fifth, but this gave Haughton the Re- gional Runner-up title. All this was accomplished by hard work and dedication from all the track members. Haughton qualified four members of the team for the State Track Meet: Freddy Smith in the discus, Gene Stro- gen in the shot, Marvin Seets in the long jum , and Stanley Wilson in the javelin. Stanley Wilson ant? Mar- vin Seets also represented Hau hton in the Meet of Champions sponsored by the Siireveport Journal. warm c,AiWanw ' Kma a ' '-65.532926 1. When asked why they didn't participate last year, most replied, We didn't know what to do! Now, since they have realized what spirit is, we can be sure the class of '84 will never be so quiet again. The Sophomore class decreased somewhat in size, but not in spirit. When special dress days came up they too, dressed up or what ever had to be done to add to the days excitement. Good job! Lets keep it up. 1 Sophomore class Officers are: President, Gwen Moseley, Vice President, Pat Driscoll, Secretary, Karen Gregorczyk, and Treasurer, Lanessa Allen. 2 The class sponsors are from left to right: Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Tynes, Mrs. Hendricks, and Mrs. Pepper Eric Alford Lanessa Allen Robin Allums Tina Andrews Tanya Araynt Eric Armour Darrell Agustus Frankie Autry Lorita Baker Micheal Baker Rodney Ball Tina Banes K, Patricia Barmore Steve Bartlet Cheryl Beason Peter Borst Bo Bosely Bill Bradford Rickey Brandl Leon Brannan Perry Brewer Jeff Bridges Sophomore fwfr ,mu E err gk ,uw Doug Brothers Robin Bryan Carol Byrnes Joe Bob Burt Curt Camp Kevin Canterbury Billy Caskey James Cassel John Chesson Dawn Cohen Cathy Cole Steve Cook Sonya Cooper Donette Copes Dave Cotty Russel Crawford Darren Culpepper Debra Daily Drew Daniels Lisa David Sylvia Davis Betty Delaney Berikitta Devereaux Donna Diamond Howard Dixon Pat Driscoll Glenda Duchesne Dewayne Edwards Greg Elliot Jeanette Farley Sophomores 115 Laverne Farley Minette Farrar jenifer Fenton Kelly Fisher Mark Forrest Roberta Garrison Vera Garrison Darlene Gauthier Kevin Gay jennifer Gibbs Kim Gladney Shae Glass Kathy Goad Bill Goben Frankie Gorman Angela Green Karen Gregorczyk Kevin Gregorczyk Gammie Harden Craig Hardwick Sidney Hardgrove Vincient Harper Danny Harrelson Leroy Harris Vertis Hart Robert Hendrix Terisa Herron Darrin Hicks Sandra Hicks Beronica Hill 16 Sophomores Sonia Hines Ted Hollis Kathy Hughart Eric Iorns Mary lvy Cindy Jacobs O tv-' x 'CY i Mike Little Mark Logan jerry Lynn Odessa Manson Sarita Marshall Melissa Massy r X gf at wa., -1 1 X l A -X. Novice Teachers Learn B Doing Novice teaching is a program where the stu- dent learns what the teacher does. It makes the student appreciate teachers. Novice teachers grade papers, give students who were absent make-up work, construct bulletin boards, and that's not all. Novice teachers are graded on an evaluation report which includes attitude, ap- pearence, cooperation, punctuability, oral communication, acceptance and use of criti- cism and dependability. Their sponsor, Mrs. Woods, helps in everyway she can. Novice teaching exposes you to the teaching field. 174 Novice Teachers 'T 5 J like 'Q 1 gtk l ' I if f 3'- ,-N' y , . 4, -N X b R . i , . .-.. -.594-N R Q X inf- fi -A 1... The formation of this civic organization came to life as the President of the East 80 Jaycees, Steve Kirkland, and Coach Montgom- ery, saw the importance of having a club just for the young civic minded men of Haughton High School. Although, the Buccaneer Jaycees were in a develop- ment year, they did become involved in a major pro- ject, as they took charge of the Chamber of Horrors in the annual Jaycees haunted house. The Chamber of Horrors was an enjoyable combination of torturing techniques, where many members of the human race were branded on the flesh, beheaded by the quillotine, and hung by the neck until dead, by the dreaded gal- lows. Although all of the stunts performed by the s ooky Jaycees were totally safe and in good taste, they still had fun and raised a sizable income as they entertained the local patrons of the spook house. 19 Foreign Language Speaks Out Rev.
