T l-D The Hatfield High School basketball team played 21 games dur- ing the season of 1946-47. One of the high-spots of the season was the Harrison County Basketball Tournament held at Ridgeway. Hatfield won third place in this tournament by downing Bethany in the first round 28 to 26. In the finals Hatfield nosed out Cains- ville by two points to receive third place. Other tournaments entered by the Pirates were the Albany Tournament, Grant City Tour- nament, Bethany Tournament, Eagleville Tournament, and the Sub- Regional. Of the eleven boys on the first and second teams, seven will graduate with the class of 1946-47. The games played during the season are as follows: Team New Hampton Cainsville Mt. BASKETBALL SQUAD Mr. Farrell, Rex Echard, Kenneth Miller, Bobbie Rinehart, Luther Miller, J.W. Harding Ora Eisenbarger, Charles Richardson, Rex Parsons, Carol Pottoroff, and Pat Hill. The most important tournaments of the year for the Hatfield basketball team were the Sub. Regional which was held at Bethany, Missouri, Feb. 26, 27, 28 and the Regional which was held in St. Joesph, Missouri, March 3, 4, 5. The seeded teams of the Sub-Regional were Ridgeway lst., Patsonsburg 2nd and Goff ey3rd. Although Hatfield was not seeded in the tournament they met Coffey in the first round and defeated them 29 to 28. Hatfield was trailing 8 points Ln the first half but in the last half Hatfield came out and battled themselves to a one point victory. In the quarter finals of the tournament Hatfield met MeFall and defeated them 47 to 56. In the semi-final Hatfield met Pattonsburg which was a strong team and seeded second. The pirates edged out Pattonsburg by two points to reach second place. In the finals Hatfield met Ridgeway, who was the favorite of the tournament, and were defeated 22 to 40, which gave Ridgeway first and Hatfield second, and both the oppor- tunity to play in the Regional at St. Joseph Missouri. Hatfield met Christian Brothers of St. Joseph in the Regional tournament, who afterwards took first place in the tournament, and were defeated.
