The traditional Thanksgiving Dance, given by the juniors, was a whopping success. To add to their social activities, the juniors presented their play, Dizzy and Daffy, in late February. They brought a successful year to an end by enter- taining the Seniors at the annual Prom. ALDEN At the beginning of the school term the Sophomores gave the Freshmen a gala reception to welcome them into Hatboro High. Later on in the year they held a skating party at Willow Grove and every one had fun, including those who met the floor. Additional activities of the Sophomores were the Spring Hop and a sl-:ating party at Willow Grove. FRESHMEN Sponsors, Miss HAMEL, DR. SPONSELLER, AND MR. LYNAUGH - The Freshmen have been supporting all the social functions of the school and are anticipating their Sophomore year. All have agreed that the reception given by the Sophomores was a lot of fun. -13 EIGHTH GRADE The eighth grade, under the guidance of Mr. Fay and lVlr. Smith, surpassed all previous records by winning the ticket sales at Thanksgiving. The boys and girls showed their athletic ability by playing on undefeated football and hockey teams. Who knows, maybe they will be the champions of the future. SEVENTH GRADE After wandering around the buildings of the high school in a state of bewilderment for several weeks, the seventh graders finally settled down and made themselves known. JONES Since the philosophy of l-latboro High is based on democratic principles, it seems only natural that there should be some form of student government. The Student As- sociation, which is composed of all the members of the school, is such an organization. lts executive group is the Student Council. Representatives are elected from each home room. The president and vice-president are elected by a majority vote of the student body. From the council itself the rep- resentatives choose a secretary and treasurer. The aims of the council are to sponsor activities in which the students can take an active part, to carry on various campaigns throughout the year, and to express the ideas of the students themselves. - Meetings are held once each week. At this time suggestions are made and it is the duty of the representatives to carry these suggestions back to their homerooms. A--- R UTH KNIFE Treasurer .... - - - - - -A LMA CORSON Perhaps more than any other organization at Hatboro High School, the band plays an important role in the activities throughout the year. It adds color, music, and hearty cheers to the football games and, on occasion, to the basketball games. This year the band members were able to strut even more proudly after the arrival of their snappy new uniforms. They certainly strutted,i too-right back home with a hundred dollar prize. They won this honor at the Veterarfs Parade in Willow Grove. ' - Under the direction of Mr. Manderville Bartle, the band has made many new formations, and its playing has been tops. Several of the members were sent to the District Music Festival at Norristown. The musical climax to the school year is the Spring Concert. T a grand, performance. he band never fails to give 62 ORCHESTRA Many times we seem to forget that the orchestra is part of the music department. Perhaps this is because the music it renders has more of the symphonic and classical touch. The musical background for the junior and Senior plays is supplied by the orchestra. It also plays for the Memorial Day Service, Baccalaureate Service, and Class Day. Memories of marching down the aisle to the melodious and sentimental strains of Pomp and Circurnstanceu are remembered long after commencement. The orchestra, which is also under the direction of Mr. Manderville Bartle, plays a very important part in the Spring Concert. Many of the members of the orchestra were given tickets to attend Concerts by the Phila- delphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music, and also the Youth Concerts. The season starts with the Candle-light Service at Christmas. At this service old familiar carols are sung. as well as special Christmas numbers. Perhaps the most impressive carol is O Holy Night, which was sung by Phyllis DeGray this year. Q In the spring, the girls also perform at the concert given by the music department. Beautiful gowns and blending of voices provide a thrill for all who attend. The Baccalaureate Service is the last program for the year.
