THE HAT GOOD YVILL Dinner was given by the Teachers' Organi- zation in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Shields, May thirty-first, at Pennypack Lodge. At the hour of seven, the teachers with their guests, including Miss Emma L. Iones, Mrs. Thomas Beach, Air. and Nlrs. Earle Bennett, and Mr. John Lindsay, gathered around the festive table adorned in all the glory of May blooms. Between the courses, the dinner committee, composed of Miss Yerkes and Miss Iliff, planned a questionnaire with Mr. Shields as the chief topic. Many of the responses caused much laughter, but others were in a more serious vein, especially those of Mr. Lindsay, who quoted Pulling Hard Against the Stream, and Miss Iones who told of three outstanding school events which had their origin during the administration of Mr. Shields. The Seniors' annual trip to Washington, THE HAT, and the School Bandf Mr. C. Thomas Beach then gave a toast to Mr. Shields, and in behalf of the Teachers' Organization presented him with a clock which had been chosen by Miss Seehousz and Miss Kearns as an appropriate gift. Another token of appreciation presented was a scroll, pre- pared by Miss Hanna, Miss Miller, and Mr. Cassara, on which was inscribed a message of good will and best wishes for Mr. and Mrs. Shields in their new field of labor. After Mr. and Airs. Shields heartily expressed their thanks for the many indications of friendliness, a social hour followed with cards and dancing. Tick-a-tock, Friendly Clock, Only happy hours chime! Rings the message of this rhyme. Page Eleven
