He is in charge of the academic program as well as providing an encouraging atmosphere for development. She must be informed of all information concerning current academic programs, student progress, and other similar activities. Mrs. Crotheis and her staff prepare the noon meal. BOLO LIBRARY Individual study is one facility that students may take advantage of. The library is used by many students daily. They can obtain literature for research or relaxation. MR. SIM Department Head Driver Training Mr. Mullens helps a student plan her schedule for the following year. At the left, Mr. Sorby advises students on map work. The excellent social studies program provides students with an informed background from earliest times to current events. Hastings High has a fine foreign language department consisting of Latin. French, and Spanish. McMILLIAN Typing - Shorthand BUSINESS 4 MRS. MILLER Typing Office Practice Bookkeeping The business department provides such classes as typing, shorthand, bookkeeping and business English. MAURER Geometry Algebra Mr. Francik explains a problem to his general math class. 19 Hastings has a vocal music department of which to be proud. Under the able leadership of Herbert Moyer the department has grown and progressed. It consists of a glee club, chorus and choir. They have had a fine year of outstanding performances. MR. H. R.MOYER VOCAL UUOfC Mr. Moyer gives his students a word of advice. 70 INSTEJU UEMAL Mr. Zylman and Mr. Steward work well together and with the co-operation of the students one of the finest bands in the state has been built. MR. ZYLMAN Instrumental Music MR. STEWARD Instrumental Music 21 Mrs. Bender advises one of her students as the others concentrate on their masterpieces . WW Students diligently put the last minute touches on their projects. ART MRS. BENDER The first and second year art program is excellent. Each year, students design many projects and compositions. The art work that is done, establishes skill, originality, patience, and a great use of the imagination. 22 Home Economics provides students with the knowledge they should have to perform such labors as cooking, sewing, and designing. Its study goes beyond the common knowledge and teaches such things as nutrition, child care, and creativity. 23 MR. HAMSTRA Accuracy is acquired by students in a class such as machine shop. The Industrial Department provides the manual dexterity one needs. It produces what is needed for a future in the vocation in the use of machinery. MR. KNOPF Agriculture -Biology Agricultural students work hard to prepare themselves for a prosperous future. £ Volleyball is enjoyed in a gym class. Football, be it varsity or junior varsity, is a combination of coaching, team spirit, practice, and energetic cheerleading. 29 The refs should be calling fouls now. If only the kids would work this hard when not posing for a picture. Halftime is spent relaxing in the halls after an exciting game. 30 The sophomores work hard on a prize winning float. Sweetheart of Sigma Chi is played by the band while Katie, Marilyn and assistants, Katie Hubert and Bill Sherwood, are viewed by the admiring crowd. if. vujorie The Juniors, who placed second in the competition, used their ingenuity by using three wagons. The championship may now be placed officially in their Saxon history book. This is the beautiful first prizewinner constructed by the Senior class. The float depicts the Saxon dynasty and the line of victories. Congratulations Seniors! The Freshman class successfully prophesied Victory Again.” They made a fine showing with their third place float. As predicted by the Sophomore class, the Saxons showed no mercy as they rolled over Greenville. Its major effort, the operetta, was a big success owing to the hard work of everyone involved. We are looking forward to more of these fine performances in the next school year. GW SCHOOL department 67 The school year of 1965-66. has been a successful one for our band. It has participated in several musical events and received high ratings from all judges. It has also recorded a fine record album. HASTINGS The band adds much spirit to home games and pep meetings.
