THE JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM The Junior Varsity team enjoyed a fine season. After weeks of practice and hard work, they played a six game schedule, winning four, tying one, and losing one. The Freshmen for the first time had their own team, so the Junior Varsity consisted mostly of Sophomores, with a few of the better Freshmen and a sprinkling of Juniors. The members of the J.V. teams are the future varsity players, and if they continue to work hard and improve as they did this year, they should be a great help to the Varsity team of the future. - Coach Oland Dunckel SEASON RECORD Haslett 20 0 Fowlerville Haslett 18 12 Willi amston Haslett 20 19 Okemos Haslett 6 6 Leslie Haslett 13 0 Stockbridge Haslett 14 16 Okemos

BASKETBALL 1958-1959 COACH OLAND DUNCKEL VARSITY... The basketball team was fortunate this year in that it had a beautiful new gym in which to play. It took the boys a while to get used to the space of the new gym. This year’s team had only one returning starter from the championship team of a year ago. It also lacked height, which is necessary for bas¬ ketball teams to have a good year. The starting team started slowly and had a hard time in winning a game on our new floor. Eventually this feat was accomplished and other victories started to come. As the year progressed, the team improved, and in the district tournament played its finest basketball of the year, winning the first two games and losing the finals to a good team. Outlooks for the coming year are good, with many fine prospects moving up from the Junior Varsity - who had a very fine season. These players mixed with the returning lettermen should make the basketball picture here at Haslett very bright. JUNIOR VARSITY ... The Junior Varsity had a highly successful season as they swept to the J.V. title and conquered two non-conference opponents. Featuring good team depth, a full court press, an active defense with their pattern offense, and utilizing the Hamilton out of bounds sleeper, the JV’s were a colorful team to watch. Determination and an unwillingness to give up brought many triumphs that seemed out of reach. This plus a 24 point splurge in three minutes of the final game of the year has given Coach Dun- ckel something to talk about over the long summer. COACH DAN GARVER 1
