Miss Mercer was our chief engineer for that trip, and she did a fine job of teaching us the A-B-C-s of railroading. Miss Mercer also accompanied us on our second trip and continued our training. We lost Bill Pienert and gain- ed Dallas Swanson on that trip. On our third and fourth trips a dining car was added to our little train and Ronald Wolf, Betty Heiman, and Betty Austin were added to our class to help with the new car. Miss Asmus became chief engineer, while Miss Mercer weni back to start a new class of railroaders. We lost Carl Young- peter on our third trip and Laurena Michealis on our fourth trip. We found that they had gone to work for rival Railroad Companies. During our fifth and sixth trips Mrs. Bengston took over as_ engineer. We added two new coachs to the train and to help with the larger train Robert Meyhofer was gained as a new conductor. But alas, A Rival Rail- road Company had again stolen three members of our crew. They were Dar- rel Debbe, Betty Heiman, and Betty Austin. When our seventh trip through Haskins rolled around, we found that the train had grown to seven cars and we had developed quite a business. Janel Maeder, Kenneth Whitmore and Robert Bomia were added to our crew now composed of experienced railroaders. We lost Robert Meyhofer, Charles Lee, and Bob Vislay. During our eighth and ninth yearly trips, Mr. Larson became the en- gineer. Walter Christopher, who was the chef, left our crew for what he thought was a better job. We then gained new crew members, Roger Mc- Surley and Dick Vykopal. Mr. Case became the engineer during our tenth and eleventh years and Barbara Ridenour joined as a waitress. During our eleventh trip, Bill Combs left us. We sold ice cream bars at basketball games and presented the play, Beauty and the Beef,” to help our savings toward a twelfth-year celebra- tion. We held a banquet and prom for another Railroad Company. A great deal of time and effort was spent on this, but since it was such a grand suc- cess,we thought it was worth while. Now as we journeyed along on our twelfth and final trip we found Mr. Griffith as our engineer. Gerry Sutton, Dick Vykopal and Sandra Armitage left our crew. During our twelfth trip we sold pop, candy and popcorn at basketball games to save money for our last trip. We also gave the play: “A Fuedin Over Yonder , which added to our savings. We are all seasoned Railroaders now and we are almost ready to go out on our own. Our final trip together will be to Washington and New York where our crew members will celebrate their twelve wonderful trips together. We will hate to leave our train but it is becoming old and worn down. It has served its purpose well, and we shall all remember the many lessons it has taught US.
