Our teacher for our first year was Miss Pretty. we had a hard time of it but after a day or so we were glad that we were in school. ln the second grade our teacher was Miss Obsnour. Jerry Davis and Paul Clapp moved to Toledo and Phyllis Mourdock moved to Waterville. Our teacher for the third grade was Miss Asmus. Robert Debbe from Tontogany entered our class. In our fourth grade our teacher was Miss Asmus. Phyllis Mourdock moved back to Haskins from Waterville. Our teacher for the fifth grade was Mrs. Bengtson. Nancy Priest moved to Bowling Green, from where she will graduate this year. During the sixth grade we put on a play under the direction of our teacher Mrs. Bengtson. Our mothers, were invited to come and see the play and in the afternoon visit our ro m. The next year our big thrill came when we moved up stairs to Junior high. Our sponsor for the year was Mrs. Moore. we elected our class officers. Jim Ryder was president, Jeanette Hummel, vice-presidentg Gerry Watts, secretary and treasurer, and Milayne Walker, class reporter. we had two parties during the year. In the eighth grade our sponsor was again Mrs. Moore. we had lot of fun but we knew we had to work hard because the next year we would be in high school. The big day arrived when got to be Freshmen. Our sponsor for the year was Miss Reid. Our freshman initiation was held in the school gym. we all had a good time. During our sophomore year our sponsor was Mrs. Flaugher. Also in this year our high school band under Mrs. Dautermmn won great honors when we received superior ratings at Bowling Green and later in the state contest at Springfield. Seven members of our class were members of the band at that time. This year it was our turn to initiatate the Freshman. During our junior year we had a full schedule. Under the direction of Hrs. McClelland we gave our class play, WThe Mad Hatters.N During this year also we gave the Junior and Senior Banquet at the Toledo Womans Club. Our sponsor for the year was Mrs. McClelland. Now c mes the closing year of our school days at dear old Haskins High. Under the direction of Mrs. McClelland we gave, WThe Bargain Bride.n During this year Jim Ryder and Darrel Duncan are co-captains of the varsity basketball team. Our sponsor for the year is Mr. Van Atta. As we close our days at Haskins High our class consists of eleven members. This year we lost Jack Anmitage and Arlene Bower, who will graduate fro Swanton. Ellen Snyder moved back from Bowling Green. At this time we wish to give our sincere thanks to the parents and teachers for providing and helping us with our education. 12 Class Will Ellen Snyder, wishes Alice Sxyder to have her blackish brown hair and brown eyes. Jeanette Hummel, wills her ability to giggle at the wrong time to Carol Fretter. 13 Class Prophecy 1953 In the spring of the year 1970, I started out on a trip around the world. I had just recently made a fortune when I invented the formula for dry water to cure people who are all wet. My souped-up superjet blew a gasket just as I was ready to take off, so I took it to a highly recommended repair shop known as WMourdock's Murderous Mechanicsn. What to my wondering eyes should appear but my old classmate, Phyllis, with all the repair gear. Finally, I took off and headed for England. I was met by the American delegation headed by our ambassadress to Britain, Miss Genevieve Watts. It couldn't be, but it was! The cutest, most undiplomatic girl in the Senior Class of '53, formerly Gerry watts. Off I went into the wild blue yonder, to Paris, the city of beautiful wo en, fashions, beautiful women, leaning tower of Piza, and beautiful women. And the most beautiful woman of all, Marie Myers, now the most valued model on two continents. Continuing on, I reached Italy and decided to tour the boot, and I met the sole of the Senior Class, Darrel Duncan, earning an honest living selling garlic grown in chlorophyll, for that clean smell. Off again and on to the province of Magador. There I found the Nrich Maharanee of Magadoen to be Milayne Walker. Oh, to be ruled by the gentle hand of a woman! I stopped off in Hongkong to get my laundry done. Here I saw the largest laundry in the world, run by Ellen Snyder. She has branch offices in every country on the globe. She's really clean- ing up a fortune. I stopped on the island of New Guinea to find how Barbara Rathbun was doing in her missionary work. I found that with the help of her native husband and six children, she had converted the entire island and was now preparing to settle down and rear her family. On to darkest Africa, where I saw the strangest sight, an old yellow, l9L8 Ford parked at a water hole. Somehow that car struck a chord in my memory. Sure enough, Jim Ryder was still driving his mother's Ford. It just seemed no other car could take its place. Now he's studying strange forms of plant life for use in his private museu . In Chili, I found Jeanette Hummel, the valedictorian of the Class of '53, the first woman president of the University of Chili. She recalled an old joke we used to love at noon, in school. UIt's so cold it's chili fsoupJ.H Oh, well. In Cuba,I wanted some entertainment, so I went to the opera HCarmen.W Singing the title role, I found Ann Armitage, now the leading prima donna of the Metropolitan Opera. Heading for home, I stopped over in Mexico. Here I found none other than our old class sponsor, Mr. Van Atta, teaching the Mexican hat dance to the headless horseman. Happily I returned home to my wife, Beverly, and little John Falls Jr., to remember always the way my old classmates looked, as they did on my trip around the world. 1A EISSBS Vice President Joyce Grolle W, ,,,,,.,.,, .Q.z:,,,, ..,:,.,... . .,. f- I ' fgfsyli i l.
