Commencement Commencement services were held on Thursday evening May 18, 1950. The girls wore white caps and gowns and the boys wore dark navy blue caps and gowns. The Salutatory and Valedictory speeches were given by Harold Weihl and Richard Huss, re- spectively. The diplomas were presented to the graduates by Mr. L, I. Browne, President of the Board of Education. The response was then given by the President of the class, Harold Weihl. The invocation and benediction were given by Reverend Richmond of the Haskins Presbyterian Church. The class chose as their flower, the American Beauty Rose and for their colors, blue and gold. For their motto, ‘ Life Is As A Picture, Paint It Well’’. Baccalaureate Baccalaureate services were held on Sunday evening of May 14, 1950. Reverend Alfred W. McLeese, minister of the Haskins Federated Church, was the speaker of the evening with Reverend Carl W. Heller, of the Haskins Lutheran Church, and Reverend Harry Richmond of the Haskins Presbyterian Church assisting. The Seniors were ushered in by the members of the Junior class while the band played a processional march. Other special music was furnished by the Girls Glee C lub. The Seniors felt happy as they realized what they had accomplished in the last twelve years and yet they were sad to know that the time for leaving our school was drawing near. Junior Play The Junior Class presented ‘Star Crazy'’, a lively three act comedy by Don Elser, on the evening of November 4, 1949. Jerry Andrews, ably portrayed by Audrey Gerdeman, spent her time helping her father, an astronomer. Harold Mutcher was a natural in the latter part, acting the part of an absent-minded professor convincingly. When Jerry heard that Dick Mallon, a big league ball player, was to be back in town, she regretted having put a career ahead of marriage with him. Ted North filled this difficult part admirably. The audience loved Mary Jane Eckel as the “ kid' sister who set out to ‘‘fix’’ things along with the help of her girl friend Beth. The latter was played enthusiastically by Pauline Mutchler. Donna's brother Bill, a young baseball enthusiast, was reluctantly drawn into the seemingly hopeless situations cooked up by her and her friend. Tom Gibbs played this part and he rollicked through one exciting and screamingly funny perdicament after another, to the rousing and laughable climax, much to the delight of the audience. The arrival of Mallon's fiancee, a pretty and tempermental Hollywood star, added to the complications, along with the schemes of her agent, Joe Allcot, to get her back to work. These two parts were well played by Doris Lee and Jim Murdock, respectively. Everyone enjoyed the grumbling, indifferent maid, Izzy, played amusingly by Lois Leibherr. From the compliments received, it appeared that the large audience enjoyed witnessing the play as much as the cast and the director, Mrs. Hazel Kille, enjoyed producing it. In behalf of the class, Audrey Gerdeman presented a beautiful white orchid to Mrs. Kille in appreciation for her work in the play's production.
