The first grade class consisted of 18 members, who were: Walter Brand, Lamson Brown, Jinmy Brown- ing, Evelyn Duty, Charles Genson, Joan Gibbs, Fred Hall, Pauline Myers, Nathalia Neal, Lois Peters, Edwin Roe, Gordon Royer, Franklin Schatizke, Marion Sutton, John Wenig, Melvin Roe, Florence Royer, Dennis Sergent. We went through this grade with flying colors. Now in our second year we returned to find that we had lost some of our members who were: Lamson Brown, Edwin Roe, Marion Sutton, Dennis Sergent. We had gained some also, they were: Homer More, Harold Mutchler, and Robert Mutchler. We now had 17 in our class. After a happy second year of learn- ing new things we were ready for vacation, but couldn't wait for school to start the next year. We now proceeded to Miss Asms! room and the third grade, We found we had lost Harold and Robert Mutchler and gained Jewel Lawson. In the fourth grade Harold Pope and Jerry Ennis joined our gange Our fifth year came swiftly upon us and we lost only one person—Lois Peters. Our sixth year with Miss Behrens as our teacher, we gained Julia Peterson and Louise Owens. We now had nineteen members. Now at the beginning of school in 193, we had the thrill, through 6 years of hard work, of climbing the stairs to the Junior High. We found that Fred Hall, Julia Peterson, _and Louise Owens had left us. Jewel Lawson also moved away in the middle of the year. In the eighth grade we lost Frank Schatizke and Walter Brand, but John Youngpeter joined us. We passed all final exams and graduated into high school. This was one of the biggest thrills of our life. We started the 9th grade with 9 people, but during the year Gene Wolfe joined us. Miss Hutchinson was our sponsor for this year, also as she had fun with us in the 8th grade. Now returning as Sophomores, thinking we knew everything but finding out differently through education, we looked at our class, which had decreased to eight members. John Young— peter and Gene Wolfe had both left us. We had as our sponsor Mrs. Keifer. In the Junior year our number remained the same. Under Mr. Pickens, as sponsor, our class made money and gave a banquet for the Seniors. Now in our last and most happy year, but yet sad for we Will soon be leaving dear old Haskins High, we have a total of eight members, who are: Charles Genson, Gerald Ennis, Evelyn Duty, John Wenig, Nathalia Neal, Pauline Myers, Jo n Gibbs, and Harold Pope. Mr. Andrews was our sponsor and under his supervision we raised enough money to take a trip. On May 20 we walked up and received our diplomas. The end to a very happy Senior year. We, the Senior Class wish to thank everyone who have made our education possible and given us self-confidence and faith to look ahead into the future and toward the road to success. CLASS PROPHECY OF 'h9 As the spring of 1959, came around and the circus began to travel the Barnum Baily and Ringling Brothers circus came to the great metropolis of Haskins and was advertising a new troupe of actors. So we decided to go to the circus and the next morning we got out the helicopter and flew down to the circus grounds and as time for the big show to start rolled around we went into the Big top and just as we got seated the big brass band began to play. As they came past us we were greatly surprised to see that the drum majorette was Joan Gibbs, a member of the class of '9. As the ringmaster came to the center of the ring to announce the acts we saw that it was Harold Pope yelling at the top of his voice. (He always was shooting off his mouth.) After he announced the next act we motioned to him to come over. He told us he liked his job very much since he was married to the former Joan Gibbs. He then returned to the ring and announced that they will see one of the most daring acts of the show-—-the lion tamer Marvo the Great who we soon found out was John Wenig. He stepped up to the lion and looked him square in the eyes. The crowd was tense, there were loud screams from the terrified women as Marvo stuck his head into the open lions mouth singing Caldonia, What Makes Your Big Head So Hard? (He always was sticking his neck out.) To prove his bravery to the crowd he again repeated it only this time the lion closed his mouth around Marvo's head--the lion lost three front teeth. Next the ringmaster announced Butterfoot the former Evelyn Duty, who is married to John Wenig. As she walked across the thin wire there was complete silence in the crowd, then as_ she reached the other side there is a loud ringing of applause. Then to show how good she really was she walked back across Without the wire. (Which is a grand feat if you can do it.’ | | | | | | Next we see 180 pounds of mscles swinging thiouzh the air on the trapeez. The ringmaster told us that it was one of his classmates, Charles Genson known as Careless Chuck who is married to his partner Pauline Myers better known as Butterfingers. She helps himin his acts like the final act where she pushes him from a platform 250 feet high on to a wet sponge, Then the ringmaster announced the Human Cannonball act by the one and only Cannonball Thal who is not caught the usual way by anet but in the arms of her husband Jerry Ennis the star clown of the circus who is better known as Jo-Jo 666 (All he does is act natural.) Of course this is what we think will happen to the class of 199 which will never come true. Or will it? WE, the Senior Class of 1949, do accept this year to be the end of our glorious school career at Haskins High School. Having been adjudged sound of mind and memory, and desiring to dispose of our possessions both in value and otherwise do deglare this to be. our last will and testament and dispose of the estate of the Senior Clads as follows: To the Faculty, who have so patiently put up with our conduct, we leave a padded cell which they have needed this last year. To the Juniors, we bequeath our intensive noisiness which, is not needed, may be passed on to the next class. I, Joan Gibbs, bequeath my love of jitter—bugging to Doris Duncan and to Jim Watts I leave my great master mind and hard studying during his school career. I, Charles Genson, bequeath my ability to drive a car to Dick Huss and hope he keeps it out of the ditch, and to Paul Eckel I leave my daily shavings in hope that he doesn't catch this habit. I, John Wenig, leave my ability to sleep in English to Harold Weihl, and hope the teacher will let him do so, and I leave my ability of giving reports to Bonnie Browne. I, Joan Gibbs and Pauline Myers, leave our power to catch aman to Arleta Snyder in hope that she can get and keep one. -I, Gerald Ennis, leave my Toni to Charlotte Murdock, and to Dick Snyder, my ability to get around the teachers in study hall. I, Evelyn Duty, leave my good looks to Leotta Limes, and leave my steady-going habits to Marion Sutton. I, Harold Pope, bequeath my cute remarks to Jim Nicholson and my girlish figure to June Robinson. I, Nathalia Neal, leave my quietness to Mary Snyder, and to Dorothy Brown I leave my beautiful red hair. I, Pauline Myers, leave my flirtatious ways to Ted Wenig, hoping he will make good use of them. We do hereby appoint the moth in Mr. Andrew's pocket—book as sole executor of our last will and testament, and do request our funeral services be carried on with much dignity and grace as our position entitles us too. In witness thereof, we the class of 199 have set our hands Signed and sealed to you this will on the thirteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord, 199. And what a party! Dapper Teddy, her brother, gets into a merry mix-up juggling four dates at once--until the girls get wise] And youngest daughter, Amy, rowdy cheer-leader, falls in love for the first time. Neigh- bors object to the noise--to the extent of punching Mr. Hughes in the nose. The police arrive....Jeanis in fora hard awakening--and so are the others, including both her parents. They all become aware of the serious implications or what had seemed very funny; and what makes the play unusual and worthwhile is the wise readjustments of the characters to one another and to life. ! | | JUNIOR AND SENIOR BANQUET The Junior and Senior banquet was held at the Woman's Club in Toledo on May 13. The meal was served at 6:30. It was a delicious dinner.
