My Dr. Don Ahshapanek, head of the Native American Studies, con- tinually strives for native aware- ness. 'Nl A peyote meeting held in coniuction with the Native American Church Mod- ule shows how in depth lndian Studies is going. We apoligize for not being able to mention all the lndian people brought here to keep up our traditions. Melvin Geionty, Kiowa, and Joe Rush, Ponca of Oklahoma are just two of the Native Americans brought here to teach a few of the old traditions. Melvin Geionty taught handgame tech- niques, southern style. Joe Rush taught fanmaking, Here they participated at the Minoka Pow-Pow. iNot picturedl, Frank McClellan Sac-n-Fox, Otoe from Oklahoma, taught feather tying. lndian Studies also was honored with the pres- ence of Joe Marshall, Sioux language teacher, who flew in every Wednesday from South Dakota and the respected Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mihecoby, Comanche from Oklahoma, who taught the re- ligion and philosophy of the Native American Church. I Assisting Mr. Milton'Overby, Librarian, with the checking shelving, cataloguing, and order of the library are Cecilia Tho- mas and Cynetta Desc-heenie. 28
