The guiding power behind the In- struction of Indian students has been rightfully given to Dean Bill Burgess, who has the uniqueness of Indians in mind. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has elected to have as Haskell's administrative body, people who have come to understand Indians. The office of ln- struction, headed by Dean Bill Burgess, survives because these people do a successful job. Other- Margaret Alexander, the current re- ceptionist will soon become George Lauppe's secretary. I wise, Haskell students would not allow themselves to be instructed in the ways of the white man. Dean Bill Burgess has acquired this understand- ing and is a substanial part of the Native Amer- ican's plan to stand up in this dominant society. George Lauppe, instructional specialist to Office of instruction, is in conference with Dean Bill Burgess and first semester secretary, Naomi Bear. Manuel Justiz, of Cuban origin, is one of the new additions to Haskell to use his mind for the bet- terment of the students. He is the Title lll Direct- or.
