Each year the Quill and Scroll Society awards four white sweaters for outstanding scho - lastic achievement--one each in English, history, mathematics, and science. The rules for these awards are: 1. Any student of Haskell High School is eligible to compete for the sweaters if he has no less than 90 on his over-all average and on the subject in which he is competing. 2. Every eligible student will be given a standard test in the areas in which he is competing. 3. The test scores are then averaged with the student's class average. 4. These averages are ranked for each award. Winners of the Quill and Scroll Society awards last year were Barbara Rexrode, a Sophomore, in Scienceg Diane Montgomery, a Senior, in Englishg Tommy Coston, a Junior, in Historyg and Jimmy Vaughter, a Senior, in Mathematics.

Beverly!-Ielweg, Lousia I-Ierren, Barbara Rexrode, Jane Bell, Dave Hiebert, and Sherry Burson dig mf. in in Mr. Blakley's Algebra II class. At noon Mr. Blakley and Bobby Gibson chew the fat , while Mr. Overton sits and sips his milk shake. Mathematics, the mother of all sciences, has interested men for thou- sands of years, and modern man is no exception. Algebra deals with the knowns and unknowns of figures. Plane Geometryis amathematics of space, emphasising measurements of lines of plane surface. Trigonometry deals with the func- tions of angles. Math is everywhere, and Haskell High School students can get a taste of many types. Mr. Blakley teaches algebra, plane geometry, and trig. He is a Sophomore Class sponsor, coaches the B team in football, and instructs golf. This is them, take a good look, grins Mr. Blakley, as he presents his B team boys with their football jackets. 1nteresting? -Billy Fouts, Jerry Jones, Maxey Mullins Qbehind Jerryl, Kay Culbertson, Tommy Coston, Bobby Gibson, Carolyn Connally, and Gail Ratliff nose in on Mr. Blakley's advanced math class.
