XKXK5 X l ' Kxxxx ELEMENTARY SCHOOL JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY ORGANIZATIONS PERSONALITIES SPORTS SNAPS ADVERTISEMENTS -X Now, Pause o moment . . . . Your school years are nearly one-third of your life. These years are formative years .... in them are the experiences which mold you as a person. They are the most important years of your life. Yet, you exert an even more important force of the school .... You are the school. The Haskell Public Schools are people .... YOU .... and it is for that reason, the Chieftain Staff has tried to picture This Year at Haskell Public Schools .... in terms of 'YOU'. We tried to show you having fun during the noon hour, marching glumly out of class after a test, yelling with full gusto after the Indians score. While it was easy to record these physical experiences we found it harder to record that inner spirit that makes you a Haskell Indian. So we decided to represent it by a caricature ....... you'll see him featured in the color picture and on the division pages. This nameless Indian is that all important Spirit that makes you stand a little higher when the School Song is played .... that makes your ears perk up and your eyes brighten when Haskell Schools are mentioned .... that makes YOU. So to You, Mr. and Miss. Haskell Public Schools of 1959 we are glad to say: THIS IS YOUR LIFE. Sincerely, Becky Busby '.-Q . ,..Q... ,..,.. HIGH'S TEE PEES Roddy Middleton is trying very hard to convince Lonnie Decker and John Kimbrough that he is a. big Warrior now! This flag represents a democratic way of life for all Jr. High Warriors. James Gay and Ken McCollum make a lovely sight for all history teachers. It is apparent that Billy Carter, Dwight Stone, Jackie Harvey get heap 'big kick from photographer. Some Jr. High beauties are Misses Branch, Burson, Wall, Turnbow, and Norton. Royce Brandsetter and Jack Hutson are soaking up plenty of Vitamin D . David Ray and Stanley Rhone are two little Indians looking for some fun, but Benny Nanny just sits. Joanie Watson, Mary Gipson, Patsy Roberson, and Shirley Smith really enjoy these pow-wows with their classmates. Curtiss Griffin, Benny Nanny, Don Thompson, and Franklin Abbey seem to rest better perched on the bicycle racks. Joanie Watson and Mary Galvan try their skill at keeping the Junior High Library straight and neat. Watching two guys scuffling makes Danny Bowen decide its to rough for his type of play. Hard-working Becky is a three year member of the Owl Club, serving as secretary her Junior year and president her Senior year. The National Honor Society and the Quill and Scroll Society also count her among their harder working members. Rounding out her busy school days are her varied activities in speech, music, and the Pep Club. She is an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. Becky's future plans are to enroll in North Texas State Teachers College where she plans to be a Business Administration major. After transferring from Seymoour in 1957, REBECCA GRIFFIN soon became an honor student in Haskell High School. In addition to her displaying superior ability in mathe- matics, she has managed to shower some of her many talents on the WAR WHOOP while serving as editor during her Senior year. Her creative ability is revealed in the Per- sonality Sectionof the 1959 CHIEFTAIN. Two year's membership in the Future Teachers netted her its presidency. She is a four year member of the Future Homemaker-s, a two year member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Quill and Scroll Society, in which she serves as reporter. Her classmates have shown their respect and admiration for her by electing her their re- presentative on the Student Union Council, selecting her to the DAR Good Citizenship Contest, and electing her Senior Class Favor- ite. Rebecca plans to major in mathematics. Indian Field suddenly became Rike field, J one would be surprised except modest DHN SAM RIKE. John Sam, a three year etterman, has participated in H. H.S. foot- all with an enthusiasm and perseverance lat has led to his earning Honorable Mention l the All-State Football team, in addition to le Sportsmanship Award and Most Con- :ientious Player Award. He also excels in -ack and baseball in which he has represented askell for three years. At the same time shn Sam has compiled a good record in the Lassroom and is a member of the National onor Society. His friendliness and willing- ess to work resulted in his being elected resident of the H-Club, president of the Stu- ent Union Council, and various offices in ie M. Y.F. at the Methodist Church which e attends. One of the Southwest Conference chools will enroll John Sam. LEWIS JONES, one of the most admired Indians on the campus, divides his time ad- mirably between athletics ad ls!!!-Arship. His enviable grades, especially in math and science, combined with his record of service as Junior class president and Senior class vice-president, earned him a two year berth in the National Honor Society. Yet Lewis performs equally well on the athletic field. Playing end on the Indian Squad, he has earned the coveted H in football for three years. He displays many talent on the basketball court, playing guard, and has lettered for two years. Lewis, a Sophomore Class Favorite, has run track for three years and is a member of the H-Club. i x JIMMY VAUGHTER, a second year electee to Who's Who, might well be called Mr. Haskell High . While maintaining an A average -- he was a National Merit Scholarship semi- finalist--, he has represented the school for two years in the Texas Interscholastic League Extemporaneous Speech Contest, where last year he placed Znd at the State Meet. He also won the Best Actor Award at the Regional One-Act Play Contest. Serving as yearbook photo- grapher for two years and as the assistant editor for the '59 CHIEFTAIN, working as Senior Class President and as president of the Quill and Scroll Society, and holding the office of president of the District Methodist Youth Fellowship are all part of Jimmy's busy day.
